It’s the penultimate afternoon of racing at Galway and they go on the Flat this afternoon from 2.35pm through until 5.45pm with a seven-race card at Ballybrit.

2.35 – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden (1m)
ONTARIO passed the post in first at Fairyhouse early last month only to lose the race in the stewards’ room having bumped the runner-up. The third ran well in a decent Leopardstown maiden since and Wayne Lordan’s mount is presumably preferred to stablemate HMS Seahorse, fourth at the Curragh on debut with Snowy Owl behind in fifth. The selection is likely to improve upped in distance and can take the opener.
Tip: Ontario @ 10/11
3.10 – Gloriously Simple With MansionBet Maiden (1m)
The Rain King was backed with confidence on his second start at the Curragh in June but failed to satisfy his suitors with a poor run, he has a point to prove now. CHIMERIC shaped with purpose under a patient ride at Naas on debut in March on testing ground before coming through to finish seventh of 17 in a race won by Hampton Court winner Russian Emperor; the fourth home Comfort Line was beaten less than a length here this week off a mark of 87 and Sheila Lavery’s charge is capable of a big run on this better ground.
Tip: Chimeric @ 9/2
3.45 – O’Leary Insurances Handicap (1m)
He had spurned a chance or two last season but HIGHTIMEYOUWON lived up to his name when justifying favouritism in a maiden at Naas over 6f in June. Oisin Orr’s charge held on well from Papa Bear that day and the winner was on that board next time out, while the placed horses also ran well. The Dermot Weld winners haven’t flowed as in years gone by, but he’s doing well here this week and can bag another.
Tip: Hightimeyouwon @ 5/1
4.15 – It’s Not Rocket Science With MansionBet Handicap (1m)
Talking Tough held off Soaring Monarch here on Monday, the pair some way clear, but they face tougher tasks from revised ratings today. This is wide open and, at the prices, a chance is taken with YULONG VOICE on first start for new connections after leaving Jessica Harrington. A change of scenery may perk him up and his stamina should be a positive in the finish here if Conor Hoban can conserve energy early on.
Tip: Yulong Voice @ 22/1
4.45 – Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Maiden (7f)
A drop to 6f didn’t seem to do any favours for ZOZIMUS at Cork last time out. He stayed on quite well late on into third and the winner ran a fair race next time in a Group 2 at the Curragh while the second found only subsequent Glorious Goodwood winner Steel Bull too good at Naas in a sprint. Back up in trip and with in-form Gavin Ryan taking off 5lb, this is a good opportunity for Donnacha O’Brien to continue a fine week with a first Galway Festival winner as a trainer.
Tip: Zozimus @ 5/2
5.15 – Galway Shopping Centre Handicap (Premier Handicap, 1m4f)
Princess Zoe seeks a follow-up from her win here on Tuesday, a race in which she finished strongly to prevail. She’s been raised 7lb for that but likely has a challenge in her again. At a more workable price though it might be worth siding with MELBURNIAN for Tony Martin. She caught the eye on seasonal bow at Cork from the rear and will relish the soft ground she gets today.
Tip: Melburnian @ 9/1
5.45 – McDonogh Capital Investments Handicap (1m4f)
DARK VOYAGER improved for the step up in distance here on Monday evening when finding only Flying Scotsman too good, form that looks good in light of the Joseph O’Brien-trained winner scoring again 24 hours later. The son of Raven’s Pass has gone up 4lb on the back of that pleasing effort but may take today’s finale with Shane Foley replacing the isolation-absent Colin Keane in what has already been a positive week for Willie Mullins in Ballybrit.
Tip: Dark Voyager @ 15/8
