Although no joy in the winner’s circle, it was great to clear my lungs out, and a relief to get back in the saddle. After an injury like that, even though you feel good at home, you can never be 100% certain sure until you’re back racing. Overall, I am very happy with my recovery and it’s full steam ahead now for the rest of the season.
Riding at Ascot on my first day back was a great bonus. It is such a lovely track and I have had some great wins there in the past, including my Royal Ascot winner ONASSIS, who I ride again in France this Sunday.
Saturday: Newbury
1.40pm Newbury – Whatitizz
First time out for Whatitizz tomorrow. I’ve ridden her out a few times at home and she is a lovely filly. She is by Cable Bay, who ran over 6f/7f, so the distance should suit and hopefully she should run a nice race.
This is trainer James Ferguson’s first year training. He has had a great start and has some smart two-year-olds at home. They are a lovely team and its great to be involved with the yard.
2.50pm Chantilly – Onassis
I’m back on Onassis for the first time after our win at Royal Ascot. I was off injured when she ran well in a hot race at Epsom last time out. She comes back over a mile for the Listed Prix De Bagatelle where we can hopefully get some black type. She’s a very versatile filly so ground is not a concern and I have a nice draw in the centre. Fingers crossed she can put in another big run!
