THE postponement of games up and down the UK and across Europe has left us all scratching our heads in search of a coupon this weekend but fear not, Selectabet has been taking a look at where there’s still a bet to be had across the globe.
Leagues that are postponed due to Coronavirus
Football in Italy and Austria was among the first in Europe to succumb to the Coronavirus as games were at first played behind closed doors, then eventually cancelled.
But bizarrely games in UEFA competitions continued while other leagues took measures to try to contain the spread of the virus.Most notable in the UK were Liverpool’s match at Anfield, played in front of a full house, where 3000 Spaniards attended in support of Atletico despite Madrid being reported as one of the most affected cities in Europe.
The following night another 50,000 fans filled Ibrox to witness Rangers v Bayer Leverkusen – on the same day Scotland’s First Minister announced there would be a ban on gatherings of over 500 people from Monday onwards.
Confirmation from Arsenal on Friday that manager Mikel Arteta was infected started a snowball effect that led to the prompt shutdown of matches in England’s Premier League and Football League. That led to the inevitable cancellation of matches in Scotland despite many believing the Old Firm derby would survive the weekend.
Friday afternoon saw the Bundesliga become the last major league in Europe to announce a shutdown, joining La Liga, Ligue 1, Eredivisie and several more in putting the prevention of the spread of the disease ahead of football.
However … some leagues have survived.
English National Leagues
In a surprising move the English National League has gone against the grain and decided to plough on with their fixtures this weekend. It was announced in a statement this afternoon the board had decided to allow matches in its three divisions to proceed as planned this weekend.
Of course that may change as things seem to be shifting on an hour-by-hour basis.
But it means we have some football in the UK to bet on on Saturday and TV channels may move to broadcast more matches than just the Halifax Town v Ebbsfleet United match which is scheduled for BT Sport 1 at 5pm.
There’s 11 matches planned in the National League plus an additional 11 in each of the National Leagues North and South so 33 games in total.
Australian Leagues
The Australian Leagues appear to be unaffected by the pandemic so far and again there’s live matches on BT Sport on Saturday and Sunday. But you’ll need to be up early to catch the action;
- Saturday 06:00 – Sydney FC v Perth Glory, BT Sport 2
- Saturday 08:30 – Melbourne City v Western Sydney Wanderers, BT Sport 2

Sunday 05:00 – Wellington Phoenix v Melbourne Victory, BT Sport 2

Sunday 07:00 – Adelaide United v Newcastle Jets, BT Sport 2
Sydney FC lead the way in the A-League where they’re 10 points clear with a couple of games in hand but the matches there always seem good for goals.
Russia
It looks like it’s all systems go in Russia too where Zenit are chasing down another title and enojy a sixpoint gap over Krasnador. They host Ural in a 1.30pm kick-off in St Petersburg on Saturday. There’s a handful of other games on Saturday and Sunday and you can watch them by tuning in to the Russian Premier League YouTube Channel.
Rest of Europe
The Turkish League is probably the highest profile outside of Russia to survive this weekend. Pick of the fixtures is top-of-the-table clash between Trabzonspor v Basaksehir in the Super Lig on Sunday. Both sides are neck and neck on 52 points at the summit.

Most of South American football looks unaffected with games going ahead in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Mexico and a whole host of other national competitions. Time to dust down your Spanish and Portuguese dictionaries and start following those obscure twitter accounts who claim to be experts in the Americas.
Africa
There are plenty of visitors from Africa on MrFixitsTips so perhaps it’s time for them to step up to the plate and help us out this weekend.
