AT the start of the seaason Arbroath were clear favourites to finish bottom of the Championship but boss Dick Campbell is steering them clear of safety.
The part-timers are eight points clear of bottom-place Alloa and if they beat Morton at home today they’ll be eight above the relegation play-off spot.
While Campbell will be focused on staying up you can’t rule out a promotion push as they sit three points behind Ayr in fourth.
It’s been a remarkable season and I’m on the Red Lichties at 13-10 with McBookie to push on today by beating a Ton side whose only recent league win was against Alloa.
Both meetings between the sides this season have been 1-0 home wins so that’s a scoreline worth considering at 12-1 with McBookie.
The Championship is never easy to call – take last weekend for example when all four of Saturday’s games were away wins from four of the bottom five.
In my book Dundee United have already clinched the title after carving out a 14-point lead but face a tough test at Queen of the South.
Their first defeat of the season was a 4-0 thumping in Dumfries and with Queens striker Stephen Dobbie back among the goals United look a little short at odds on – McBookie offer best price at 5-6.
I’d rather be on both teams to score at similar odds of 4-5 with William Hill.
Dobbie is 9-2 with bet365 to score first compared to 21-10 for United’s top scorer Lawrence Shankland while Nicky Clark is 13-2.
Biggest game at the foot sees Alloa entertain Partick Thistle with the Jags looking to move seven points clear of safety.
Two-thirds of the Jags’ points have come on the road and they have the second best away record in the league. I fancy them to win even though a best price of 10-11 at Sky Bet is a little insulting.
League One is producing a fascinating title race with just three points separating the top four.
On paper second-placed Airdrie have the easiest game at home to second-bottom Forfar and are 7-10 at William Hill.
However, Forfar won 2-0 in Lanarkshire at the start of the season and with their last three games producing 18 goals I’d rather be on over 2.5 match goals at 8-11 with Sky Bet.
Third-place Falkirk entertain an inconsistent Dumbarton who followed a win at Raith with a draw at home to basement boys Stranraer.
The Bairns stormed to a 6-0 win against the Sons back in August and will fancy their chances but again a best price of 4-11 at bet365 is short. You could try Falkirk and over 2.5 match goals at evens with Paddy Power.
Leaders Raith are aiming to beat Peterhead at home for a fourth time this season and look decent value at 19-20 with Betfred, with loan striker and top scorer Jamie Gullan playing his last game for the Fifers before returning to Hibs.
In League Two the title race remains a shoot-out between Cove and Edinburgh City.
Cove travel to bottom-of-the-table Brechin and it’s difficult to find value. The leaders won 4-2 at Glebe Park earlier in the season so Cove and over 3.5 goals may give you a run at 11-8 with Sky Bet.
Edinburgh look big at 6-4 with Betway but have never won at Elgin in seven visits. Their last two trips north have finished 3-3 and a remarkable third in a row pays 42-1 with Marathonbet,
Best bet here could be over 2.5 match goals at 3-5 with Marathonbet.
