THE only online bookie that lists SPFL and first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie.
McBookie’s Damian Walker is back with his first-scorer tips and he’s also challenging punters to pick their own.
Every week one person with a correct prediction will be chosen at random to win a £10 bet – and if you backed your tip with McBookie with at least a fiver they’ll double the prize to £20.
You can comment with your pick here and give any reasoning but to enter the contest you have to email mrfixit@dailyrecord.co.uk.
Quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish games only – for a chance to win. Last week several people picked Lawrence Shankland and the winner is James Leitch.
Here is Damian with this weekend’s selections. He says: “Cowdenbeath’s Fraser Mullen did the business for this column last weekend returning a 14-1 first-scorer winner and Edinburgh City’s Alex Harris also scored but sadly not the first goal.
“Motherwell are a side I have been with all season and see no reason to desert them when they can be backed at 4-5 to win at home to St Mirren.
“The Buddies have scored three goals in seven Premiership matches this season which works out at a goal in every three hours of football.
“And if you include their four League Cup games played against a Championship club, two League Two sides and a non-league side, they scored just three goals in six hours of football, so a goal every two hours!
“That is just a terrible attacking record and on Saturday they line up against a Motherwell side averaging almost two goals a game in the Premiership this season, with only Rangers and Celtic having a better record.
“I must admit I’d have Well more like 4-7 for this game and obviously as a result of those inflated match odds about them, the first scorer prices will be bigger too.
“Devante Cole, on loan at Motherwell from Wigan, hasn’t been an instant hit in front of goal since arriving pre-season but he finally got off the mark last weekend, scoring the only goal in their 1-0 win at St Johnstone.
“Many of Cole’s games have begun on the bench this season but the confidence of a goal and a place in the starting XI might make him worth a bet at 11-2 with McBookie to score the opener against St Mirren.
“Dropping down into League One and last weekend I tipped East Fife at 4-1 to win at Falkirk and they certainly had their chances but the game finished 0-0.
“On Saturday the Bairns face their toughest test of the league season to date with a trip to Raith Rovers.
“The home side are sadly without the excellent Lewis Vaughan who is out for the season after suffering another injury blow to his career.
“Even without him I still make league leaders Raith favourites to win this game but the bookies see it differently, with the Bairns as market leaders at 6-5 and Raith 17-10 outsiders.
“Don’t forget the two sides have already met in a repeat of this fixture in the Challenge Cup exactly a month ago with a 2-0 home win for John McGlynn’s men.
“nd having plucked a defender out to score first last weekend, I am going to attempt to repeat the trick this Saturday with Raith’s Michael Miller.
“The former Celtic youth player has scored three goals in eight League One appearances this season yet can be backed at 18-1 with McBookie for the opener.
“Finally, the two teams who did me a favour last weekend – Cowdenbeath and Edinburgh City – clash on Saturday and with Cowdenbeath winning five on the bounce and Edinburgh City five wins and a draw something has to give.
“My money is on the Citizens who have put that opening-day nightmare to bed and are looking the strongest title contenders to Cove Rangers.
“I’m sticking with Alex Harris who scored the second goal last weekend. Hopefully he nets the first this time around which is a 15-2 chance with McBookie.
