LATE goals are great goals and winners for Rangers and Aberdeen last week got the season off a to a super start.
I was mega confident about my Celtic/Rangers double and Connor Goldson got me out of jail while the Dons came from behind against Hearts to land an 11-2 treble.
Week one is usually the toughest to call and the fact Killie and St Mirren ran Rangers and Hibs so close was a surprise to me.
However, week two doesn’t look any easier with Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen all returning from midweek tips and while all three should win at some point the Euro exertions might come back to haunt them.
Game of the weekend is Rangers v Hibs on Sunday and the fixture has a recent history of goals. Gers’ 1-0 win after the split last season followed five in a row where both had scored.
Steven Gerrard’s are a best 1-2 with McBookie and it’s a little short if you rate Hibs the fourth best team in Scotland and that Rangers conceded to Killie last week and two in Denmark.
Hibs are 6-1 at William Hill with the draw 7-2 at bet365 so best bet could be both to score at 19-20 with bet365.
Picking a first scorer isn’t easy until we see Gerrard’s line-up as he may make changes ahead of Thursday’s Europa League second leg against Midtjylland.
Last weekend a Celtic/Rangers double paid 11-10 and I suggested 4pts on line. When I believe it’s on I’ll put up the price every week as an experiment and track the profit/loss figures.
Celtic are at Motherwell at lunchtime and doubled with their rivals pays a best evens at Ladbrokes and McBookie. I’m 4.4pts up and advising 2.4pts.
Neil Lennon’s men have a massive return with Cluj on Tuesday so will make changes at Fir Park but should have enough to beat a side that’s lost the firepower of David Turnbull, Jake Hastie and Curtis Main.
It’s unlikely to be a rout though so best bet here could be over 2.5 match goals at 3-4 with Marathonbet. If he starts back Leigh Griffiths to score at evens with William Hill.
The other Sunday game sees Aberdeen travel to a St Mirren side widely tipped for the drop. Jim Goodwin still needs to get players in and if the Dons have the energy after a bad 2-0 defeat in Croatia they should make this four straight wins at the Simple Digital. They are 17-20 at Unibet.
In the Championship I like Inverness at 4-5 with Marathonbet at home to promoted Arbroath despite last week’s 4-1 defeat at Dundee United.
Morton should see off Peter Grant’s Alloa and although it could be a close call 11-10 at William Hill is a fair price.
Best game should be Dundee v Ayr and it could be a goalfest. There have been 10 in Ayr’s last two while Dee were held 2-2 at Dunfermline in their opener. Over 2.5 goals pays 11-10 at William Hill and both to score is 4-5.
In League One Falkirk are 8-13 to pick up their first win against Dumbarton and I also like Raith at home to Clyde at 9-10 with Marathonbet.
It was all about Cove and Mitch Megginson in League Two last week. After their 5-0 win against Edinburgh the title favourites head to Albion Rovers but this is no gimme.
Rovers have improved and won at Stenny last week after holding St Mirren in the Betfred Cup. Cove are a little short at 4-6 at Ladbrokes but I wouldn’t put anyone off backing the prolific Megginson to score at 5-6 with McBookie.
