SCOTLAND’S women are massive underdogs against Japan today but I’m backing them to avoid defeat.
Shelley Kerr’s ladies made a disastrous start to the World Cup with 45 minutes to forget against England before a battling second-half show that could have earned a point.
England and Japan are the top two seeds but Asako Takakura’s side looked out of sorts in a 0-0 draw with Argentina.
The only consolation for the favourites was a first clean sheet in eight but if they don’t improve Scotland can win if they’re braver on the ball.
Scotland aren’t as big as they were against the English but McBookie go 4-1 with Japan 3-4 and the draw 13-5.
Kerr is likely to make some changes in attack with Jane Ross a possible starter and Erin Cuthbert moved out wide.
Japan are ranked seventh in the world but look there for the taking and I’m on Scotland draw no bet at 14-5 Betvictor. Not to lose we are 11-10 with bet365.
I backed goals in England v Scotland but they could be at a premium and under 2.5 pays 8-11 at McBookie.
My Super Single last week was Scotland to score at 13-8 and today it pays just 8-13 at Betway. To score two or more we are 7-2.
Ross, Cuthbert and Kim Little are all 9-1 to score first while last week’s scorer Claire Emslie is 12s. Sophie Howard could be worth a punt at 18-1 to net.
In the other Group D game England are just 1-10 to beat Argentina and should do so with plenty to spare if they stay focused for 90 minutes. Take England -1 at and again back Nikita Parris to score at 17-20.
Recommended Bets
- Scotland draw no bet (2pm)
- Howard to score
- England -1 (8pm)
- Parris to score
