FOR most people, the Champions League Final on 1st June will signal the end of the football season. Certainly, for punters the lack of a domestic schedule starts to narrow the options, but there is, in fact, a lot of football on over June and July – much more than usual.
Even though it’s not a World Cup year, there is a huge amount of international football for a variety of reasons. Below we have picked out some good value bets to cover a range of competitions, with best odds scoured from a range of top bookies.
UEFA Nations League – 5 June to 9 June 2019 – Live on Sky Sports
A lot of pundits and some bookies are backing England at 7/4 to win the inaugural Nations League Final.
Portugal – who host the tournament – share co-favourite status with England with a number of bookies, but there are compelling reasons that the 11/5 from Betfred is good value.
First of all, home advantage will count for a lot. Secondly, Portugal have a much easier semi final draw (they play Switzerland, England play Netherlands).
England will probably be without the likes of Harry Kane, and several players will have been involved in Champions League and Europa League Finals.
- Portugal win the UEFA Nations League – 11/5 Betfred
FIFA Women’s World Cup – 7 June to 7 July – Live on BBC
If you haven’t been paying attention to women’s football, then you’re missing out on a golden period for the England team. The winners of the She Believes Cup showed they have the mettle for international competition, and they will head to France full of confidence.
England are 9/2 in some places, so that 7/1 looks very generous for the Lionesses.
If you are a bit timid about backing them for the whole thing, Betway have a cracking price of 5/6 that they top Group D.
Copa America – 14 June to 7 July – Live on Premier Sport
Brazil are the hosts of an intriguing Copa America next month. The Seleção is on the verge of creating another great generation of players.
Yes, they flattered to deceive in the last two World Cups, but they are also coming to the realisation that not everything can come through Neymar.
Coach Tite will likely pick a young side, with some very good players coming through. Above all though, it’s the level of competition they face that makes Brazil the right pick; Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Chile all have rebuilding to do.
This has home win written all over it.
CONCACAF Gold Cup – 15 June to 7 July
Alright, this is one for the pros: Mexico and the USA have won 13 of the 14 Gold Cups, and it’s almost guaranteed that one of them will do it again, especially as there are no South American invitees this year.
You might want to wait until more bookies release odds (competition gets underway on 16th June) to really get value for money, but even backing both sides with Betway could lead to a healthy profit.
- Mexico & USA win the CONCACAF Gold Cup – 6/4 & 11/8 Betway
Africa Cup of Nations – 21 June to 19 July 2019 – Live on Eurosport
The African Cup of Nations will be played in the summer for the first-time next month, with action getting underway in Egypt on 21st June. The hosts are favourites but there is a huge amount of variation in the UK online bookmakers 2019 markets.
Morocco – a tough, dynamic side – are as low as 6/1 in places, making that 12/1 offered by Bet365 simply outstanding. If you want an even bigger dark horse, Algeria can be found at 19/1 with Paddy Power.
- Morocco win the AFCON – 12/1 Bet365
