IT’S been a great weekend and I’m setting my sights on this one from the Paraguayan top-flight to extend that run of form!
CERRO PORTEÑO VS. SOL DE AMÉRICA
(10.15pm)
Cerro looked great in the early stages of the Apertura and they’ve gone on to justify my early optimism with a crackling start to campaign which sees them sitting in 2nd spot behind Paraguayan giants Olimpia Asuncion.
The hosts have won 7 of their last 10 domestic games, having drawn 2 and lost just once since the start of the most recent campaign – more notably they are on a 5 match winning streak including 2 big wins in The Copa Libertadores seeing off Basilian side Mineiro away from home and Venezuelan outfit Zamora back at The Estadio General Pablo Rojas in Asuncion.
SDA are in their usual mode at this point of the season; mid-bottom of the table with patcy form and involved in some high scoring encounters! They have lost 3 of their 4 away games thus far and have conceded 3-0-1-3-3-0-4 on their travels across their last 7 successive away days.
H2Hwise, Cerro have gone toe to toe with SDA 5 times over the last 14 months gaining the bragging rights on 80% of those occasions and scoring 1-2-3-2-3 team goals in the process – yes, they lost that last one 2-1 but this is a different beast and on home soil and a good wind in their sails, I reckon the good ship Cerro can grab a few more tonight!
