LAST week saw us finish 2nd (14/1) with the shaken not stirred Justin Thomas. It’s rare that Slice would ever keep faith in someone who’s bottle cost him so dramatically but in my opinion JB Holmes got into his head with his outrageous slow play and that ridiculous pre-putting method.
Christ, I would of said something to the Kentucky man if I had of been playing with him. JT will be my Major man this year.
I should have known the writing was on the wall on Saturday; arguments with the mother-in-law and the silent treatment by the wife. Newport v City hardly got me on the edge of my seat and it took 10 cans of Carlsberg Export, some spicy noodles and half a bottle of gin to perk things up. Sadly though, it gave me toilet issues and too much time sat thinking about where it all went wrong.
I did however take the kids to a 9-hole course on Sunday morning and pulverising them by 20 shots was a rare bright spot.
With nothing lost and nothing gained last week I’m putting up another 4 selections this week across two tournaments.
It’ll be full on Mexicana in the slice household, I’ll be complementing my bets by taking advantage of scan and go stacking up on burritos, enchiladas and corona for the weekends fun and games.
WGC Mexico Tips
A stellar field which includes the world’s top 50, plus any other winners from the elite tournaments. Around 76 players turn up to the par 71 course in Mexico City.
The winner will need to be accurate off the tee, with its tight tree-lined fairways and penalising rough. It suits a calm, assured player which was slightly different last year as big Phil triumphed – but he’s different level when he turns up.
Gary Woodland
The Kansas man has quickly becomes Slice’s favourite golfer. A beast of a driver, he’s regulary fairway finding at 320yds+.
The only negative is his putting but once he starts sinking a few he is sure to get his 4th win on tour – Go G Wood.
Sergio Garcia
If Sergio has put has demons behind him and made friends with the bunker in Saudi Arabia after doing a Dillian White on it he could go well this week. Ideally suited to a man with his finesse , go Garcia .
Danny Willett
The man from the steel city produced amazing results towards the back end of last year and the European Tour style course should be right up his street.
LPGA Thailand Honda open
One bet and one bet only in the women’s game this week goes to MINJEE LEE.
Dive into Minjee each-way. A serial performer and cut maker, Minjee performs well in Thailand and after a 15th place finish in last week’s Major, the Australian world number 7 looks good to go in Thailand .
Golf jolly for me this weekend as the mighty United hopefully de-rail Liverpool’s title hopes. If anyone wants an autograph I’ll be in Grantham Sunday/Monday making birdies .
