It’s going to be a cold night in the fleshpots of Essex but despite the adverse weather, their could be plenty to cheer for the home fans…
BILLERICAY TOWN VS. SLOUGH TOWN (1945 KO):
‘RICAY were my pre-season pick for promotion and although it’s been an up and down campaign thus far, there’s still a good way to go and more than enough capacity within the squad to get themselves firmly back in the mix.
Recent results may indicate a turn in form
New gaffer Harry Wheeler was rightly chuffed with his sides performance at the weekend as they grabbed the points in a solid 2-0 win over 6th placed promotion rivals Welling at The AGP Arena, one of the highlights being a cracking debut from new signing Charlie Wassner who earned himelf a man of the match and a place in the NLS Team of the Week.
Despite the variable results, Billericay have continued to provide goals in recent games having scored 2-2-6-1-3 team goals in their last 5 successive matches; given that opponents Slough have conceded 2 in both of their last games (including a 2-0 defeat to bottom side Weston) then I suspect, prices for home goals may be a touch too generous.
Inspiration from the ladies
The hosts have no fresh injury concerns following Saturday’s big win and Wheeler paints a very positive picture of the camp as does Wassner after his impressive debut – if they need any further motivation then perhaps they could take it from their Ladies side who narrowly edged last local rivals Rayleigh 32-0 on Sunday!
Joking aside, Saturdays result and a recent resurgence in goals may well prove a turning point in their seasons fortunes as they look to fulfill that early-season promise – the weather is a slight concern but it looks like any Essex-bound snow will have the decency to fall towards the end of the game at around 2100.
