After breezing past Hibernian in midweek Aston Villa face a tricker trip to Turf Moor this afternoon against promoted Burnley.
Unai Emery’s side have bounced back from a 5-1 defeat to Newcastle on the opening day to win their next two, scoring nine in the process.
They’ve not won in five away games in the top flight however so they’ll need buck that trend to pick up the three points at Burnley.
There was no shame in the Clarets’ defeat to Manchester City that kicked-off the Premier League season but we should learn a little bit more about Vincent Kompany’s side today but Villa should be good enough to make it three wins from three or at the very least score two or more at even money.
Manchester City will be without Pep Guardiola for today’s match against Sheffield United but that shouldn’t stop them racking up a comfortable win.
The Blades look like their squad could be weaker than the one that gained promotion. There’s a huge gulf in class between the sides and if City’s 3-0 win over Burnley is a barometer then we should see a similar margin of victory today.
Match of the Day is at St James’ Park and it should be a cracker. Newcastle United have been excellent under Eddie Howe and that classy win over Villa hinted at even better things to come this season.
But they were brought down to earth in defeat at Manchester City. If they’ve ambitions of finishing top four they need to be winning matches like today’s.
Liverpool are unbeaten in 13 top flight matches against Newcastle and although in a bit of transition they’re unbeaten in their last 13 matches overall.
Over 2.5 Goals would be the obvious bet but it’s just 1/2 so neck on the line, Newcastle with home advantage looks the call at 6/5.
St Mirren have the chance to go top of the Scottish Premiership with a win over Aberdeen this afternoon.
The Dons rescued a 2-2 draw from their European tie in Sweden on Thursday having been two goals down so will travel to Paisley in good spirits. But they’ve not had much joy away to the Buddies recently where they’re winless in five.
St Mirren have been impressive so far this season and for a while now under Stephen Robinson and with Aberdeen minds possibly on their return leg in the Europa League on Thursday the three points could be staying in Paisley today at 5/4.
