The finale to the Championship is always one to look forward to but with just 90 minutes of football to be played there’s very little still to be resolved.
We’ve known for a long time that Burnley would be going up as champions and that Sheffield United would be joining them in second place.
And at the bottom Reading, Blackpool and Wigan’s fate has already been sealed.
That just leaves the battle for the play-off places with two place still up for grabs. Luton and Middlesbrough are safely in to the semi-finals, to be joined by two of five clubs.
There are three teams hoping to capitalise if Millwall (6th) or Coventry City (5th) slip up.
Coventry (69pts +12GD) are in pole position and a point will be enough from their visit to Middlesbrough who’ll be disappointed to have lost their last two fixtures.
Defeat for the Sky Blues could see them missing out however with Sunderland (66pts +10GD) the biggest threat.
The one everyone will be keeping an eye on is at The Den where Millwall (68pts +8GD) host ninth placed Blackburn (66pts -3GD) who know that even a win might not be enough to see them sneak in to the play-offs.
Both West Brom (66pts +7GD) and Sunderland (66pts +10GD) have better goal differences than Rovers however they too have tricky matches away from home this afternoon.
The Baggies are in Wales to play in-form Swansea who have gone eight unbeaten (W6 D2) to finish the season strongly. In fact a win by a couple of goals today could see them overtake Albion.
Deepdale is the destination for Sunderland today where they’ll face a Preston side that’s slipped out of play-off contention after picking up just one point from the last 12 available. The Black Cats can take advantage by picking up the three points at 10/11 – and hoping things go their way at Millwall or Middlesbrough.
For a fun bet on the final day of the season, all 12 matches to see over 1.5 goals pays over 14/1.
There’s a massive game at the bottom of the Premier League tonight and defeat could signal curtains on Southampton‘s 18-year residency in the top flight. The Saints are five points adrift with four to play and defeat at fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest would be disasterous.
Forest, who are third from bottom are desperate for the three points themselves but can point to decent record at the City Ground where they’ve only lost five of their 17 home games this season.
Southampton’s last win came back on March 7th and they’ve not won away from home since triumphing at Stamford Bridge in February.
With the home support fully behind them the Tricky Trees look value at 11/10.
