The DP World Tour remains in Asia with this week’s Thailand Classic at Amata Spring Country Club, Chon Buri, Bangkok, Thailand.
The 132 field with the Top 65 including ties making the cut will all be competing for a share of the $2M prize purse with the winner collecting the Thailand Classic title and a winner’s cheque for $333,400.
Jamie Donaldson is the only course winner taking part in this event when claiming the Thailand Golf Championship around here in 2015.
Amata Spring will be playing 7,505 yards long this week, it’s a par 72 parkland layout where the key to success will involve long straight ball striking off the tee with a hot putter to capitalise on the many birdie opportunities.
The weather is forecast to be sunny and hot throughout with breezes reaching no more than 10mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf & Sky Sports Main Event with live coverage starting at 5.30 am on Thursday morning.
Thailand Classic Selections
Thorbjorn Olsen 22/1 EW 1-5 places Bet365
For my first and main betting selection to win the Thailand Classic, I’m going to advise Thorbjorn Olsen 22/1 EW 1-5 places Bet365 or 20/1 EW 1-8 places Boylesports.
The 33-year-old old from Denmark has finished inside the Top 20 at all three events entered in 2023 with the best of those performances being T4th last time out at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship. The winner last year at the Betfred British Masters can also be backed up with another five DP World Tour titles which is much more than almost everyone in this entire field .
I just have a feeling that Thorbjorn Olesen can use all his experience and expertise to negotiate his way around this Amata Spring layout to make it a magnificent seven DPWT crowns in the early hours of this coming Sunday morning.
Robert MacIntyre 20/1 1-7 places Coral
For my next best selection I’m going to point you all in the direction of Robert MacIntyre 20/1 1-7 places Coral. It’s the first time this year I’ve selected one of my favourites but the time could be right for the 26yrs old from the gateway to the highlands to get off the mark in 2023 and it’s a perfect opportunity for Bob to do just that.
Bob missed the cut last weekend at the Singapore Classic but I’m not going to allow that to sway me. You only have to go back ten events to see a W on Bob’s CV when he won the Italian Open at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, the venue for this year’s Ryder Cup.
With The Masters at Augusta just around the corner, where Bob always puts on a show, expect more of the same this week in Bangkok as Robert MacIntyre lays a statement of intent that he will be in that Ryder Cup team as he scoops the Thailand Classic title to make it a hat-trick of Ws on the DP World Tour this weekend.
Zander Lombard 70/1 EW 1-5 places 10Bet
For my final outright pick in Asia this week I’m going to single out Zander Lombard 70/1 EW 1-5 places 10Bet or why not try 66/1 1-7 places with the same firm?
The 28-year-old South African has been in fantastic form lately and arrives in Thailand brimming with confidence after T6th last weekend at the Singapore Classic and an even better runner-up finish at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.
After two missed cuts to start 2023, Lombard has found a groove and could be the one they all have to beat this week at Amata Spring Country Club .
He is yet to break his duck on the DP World Tour but has come close on more than a few occasions having finished runner-up at four events.
With this weaker field it’s the perfect opportunity for someone like Zander Lombard to win that maiden title which would give him all the confidence in the world to go on and claim more.
His driving distance has definitely improved by over 10 yards this season and he can use this to power his way to his maiden title in Thailand with a well-deserved victory at a not-too-shabby price safe in the knowledge that just a place would return a tidy profit for all you each-way backers.
So all that’s left now is the match bet and for this week’s Nap in Thailand, I’m going to advise that my main selection Thorbjorn Olesen gets the better of Adrian Otaegui over 72 holes 5/6 Bet365.
Thailand Classic Selections
- Thorbjorn Olsen 22/1 EW 1-5 places Bet365
- Robert MacIntyre 20/1 1-7 places Coral
- Zander Lombard 70/1 EW 1-5 places 10Bet
