Hanwha Life Esports enter their first match of LCK 2023 Spring as massive favourites to defeat Kwangdong Freecs, which makes sense. Even though HLE aren’t one of the top teams in the league, they’re undeniably powerful.
A complete roster restructure in November saw the arrival of a new bottom lane in Kim “Life” Jeong-min and Park “Viper” Do-hyeon, reigning world champion Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon in the top lane and a terrifying mid-jungle duo in Kim “Zeka” Geon-woo and Kim “Clid” Tae-min. Kwangdong Freecs also changed its lineup in November but failed to attract any big stars – instead, KDF opted for a development project with a very young team.
The talent gap alone is enough for us to consider Hanwha Life Esports as a couple of tiers above KDF. Although early-season games can be a bit unpredictable, Hanwha Life can’t afford to struggle if they want to be taken seriously.

Nongshim RedForce — like many other Korean LoL teams — rebuilt their LoL division ahead of the 2023 season, promoting their entire academy roster to the big league. Whether using younger talent will net RedForce any notable results in the first split is up to debate, but NS Challengers won LCK CL 2022 Summer Playoffs, so they’re no pushovers.
Fredit BRION made some roster changes ahead of this season, but even though the team looks stronger, there is nothing too exciting about this lineup. They seem better than NS on paper, but Fredit BRION are still one of the weaker teams in the LCK.
A smaller position on Nongshim RedForce makes the most sense at the offered LoL betting odds. We can’t say whether the roster will manage to translate their success in the academy league to the LCK, but at $1.40 with Betway, Fredit BRION look a bit overrated. The value is with Nongshim RedForce’s young squad.
