The DP World Tour resumes this week with the Nedbank Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club, Sun City, South Africa.
The smaller than the usual 66 field with no cut this weekend will all be competing for a share of the $6M prize purse with the winner collecting the Nedbank Challenge title and a winner’s cheque for $1.02M.
With no event since 2019, the last player to win at Sun City was Tommy Fleetwood who will be in attendance this week, he’s the 10/1 clear favourite this time around.
Gary Player Country Club will be playing 7,334 yards long this week, it’s a par 72 parkland track where the key to success will involve some long straight drives Off the Tee with precision irons to set up many birdie opportunities. Greens in Regulation figures will need to be up there come Sunday afternoon.
I’ve already posted this week’s PGA Preview for the Houston Open as we look to land the hat trick after picking the winners for the past two weeks so be sure to have a look if you have time.
The weather at Sun City this week is forecast to be sunny and warm as one would expect but rain is predicted over the weekend with a threat of some thunderstorms. Breezes will peak at around 9-10 mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 9 am on Thursday morning.
So let’s move on with this week’s best betting tips for the Nedbank Challenge Preview.
Branden Grace 25/1 EW PaddyPower
For my first and main selection at Sun City, I’m going to strongly advise Branden Grace 25/1 EW PaddyPower. The 34-year-old old from Pretoria, South Africa will have a home advantage this week and that could well pay off come Sunday. I actually can’t believe I’m tipping a player who has missed ten cuts from sixteen events entered this year and to be honest I don’t really have anything to go on here for Grace with stats or performances.
These South Africans play the Sunshine Tour over here and know these venues like the back of their hands.
His best finish this year was 24th at the Scottish Open, nothing spectacular but he does have six Top 10 finishes at majors and eleven victories across both the PGA and DP World Tours. His most recent victory came last year when winning the Puerto Rico Open and I just have a feeling Branden Grace will adapt best to conditions this week in his homeland in front of his fans and put on a show in Sun City as he scoops the Nedbank Challenge this coming Sunday.
Tommy Fleetwood 10/1 EW SkyBet
For my next best tip I’m going to point you all in the direction of Tommy Fleetwood 10/1 EW SkyBet. The 31 yrs old Englishman from Southport has fond memories around here and won this event in 2019 and it could be more of the same this time around.
I don’t ever like sticking to favourites but as mentioned in this week’s PGA preview, I have to give you the best possible chance to win and Tommy ticks all the boxes for me. Fleetwood is still without a win this year but he has been knocking on the door on more than a few occasions. Fleetwood played the par fives sixteen under last time out around here and that could be the clue right there.
This long layout should more than suit Tommy’s game as he has already proved and with three Top 5 finishes at his last seven attempts, there is certainly some form there to go on . Tommy Fleetwood arrives at Sun City as the highest-ranked player in this field and the World ranked No25 can show his class yet again in South Africa with another Nedbank Challenge title in the bag this weekend.
Ryan Fox 20/1 EW Bet365
For my next suggestion, I’m going to single out Ryan Fox 20/1 EW Bet365. It’s been a fantastic year for the 35yrs old Kiwi and it could get even better this weekend. With two victories on the DP World Tour this year when winning the Ras Al Khaimah Classic and also the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, he could land the hat-trick for both us and him in Sun City this weekend.
He has also finished runner-up at three other events this year, 2nd at the Dutch, 2nd at the Irish Open and T2nd at the Soudal Open so if it forms only we are going on, no one arrives here better equipped than The Fox. Ranked 10th on the DP World Tour this year for Driving Distance and 5th for Total Stroke Average, this venue will suit Fox to a Tee pardon the pun and he could easily stroll to victory so my advice is to take the 20/1 before it’s more like 2/1 at Sunday’s final round.
For my final selection, it’s the customary match bet and this week I’m going to advise, and I don’t like doing this to Oor Bob, Christian Bezuidenhout looks a good bet on home soil to beat Robert MacIntyre over 72 holes so I’ll make this another SuperBanker Nap 1/1 Bet365.
