The Scottish Championship is shaping up to be one of the most competitive we’ve ever seen, with the top six separated by just three points after a third of the season’s matches have been played.
Ayr United re-took the top spot with a win over Partick Thistle but will they last longer at the summit than some of their predecessors?
Tonight any one of the four teams in action could move into first place.
Inverness have been the biggest disappointment in the last few weeks. After blazing their way to the top of the table with five wins in a row they inexplicably lost at home to bottom-side Hamilton, then followed that up with a draw against Raith Rovers. They have a chance to redeem themselves this evening at Capplielow where in-form Morton await.
Ton themselves have found a bit of form of late, unbeaten in four and Dougie Imrie has added the evergreen Efe Ambrose to his squad this week.
Any result is possible but Caley have won three of their last four visits to Cappielow and are 19/10 to do so again. In the draw-no-bet market, you can have 11/10 on the away win and that looks the safest way to get the Highlanders on side.
Tonight’s other match looks just as tricky to call. Queen’s Park have ambitions of being Glasgow’s third biggest club and laid down a huge marker last week when thumping Partick Thistle in the Glasgow derby. Tonight they host Dundee who sit two points behind them in 5th.
The Dens Park side have flattered to deceive yet again this season so far. Yes, they’re just three points off the top but they’ve dropped as many points as they’ve won at this stage and have failed to string a decent run of results together.
The Spiders too have been wildly inconsistent. Just two weeks they were thumped 5-0 by Ayr, only to follow that up a few weeks later with a stunning 4-0 win over Partick Thistle. In fact, take the two Glasgow Derby wins out of the equation and Queen’s Park have only won one point against teams in the top half of the division. That’s probably a bit of a harsh assessment but they were beaten 3-0 by Dundee when the sides met in September.
Dundee might just edge this one but it should be a match that sees goals. Both sides’ matches are averaging well over 2.5 goals per game and Over 2.5 goals have landed in the two most recent meetings. It’s 4/5 to land again.
With things so tight in the Championship, it looks like a weekend to back draws. All five matches to finish level pays 313/1 at Bet365. It could be worth perming three, four and all five for small stakes.
