Paris-Saint Germain will look to continue their charge towards another Ligue 1 title when they travel to Ajaccio on Friday night.
Following a surprise 0-0 draw at Reims a fortnight ago, Christophe Galtier’s side returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over arch-rivals Marseille in last Sunday’s Le Classique.
As for Ajaccio, they have shown some signs of life of late having pulled off a shock 2-1 at Marseille before grabbing a last-gasp-equaliser at Troyes last time out, but it will be fair to say that there will be a huge step up in class here.
As such, the capital club head to Corsica as short-priced 2/5 favourites, however we can boost those odds up to an enticing 5/6 (Betfair) by backing the reigning champions to overcome a – 1.5 start on the Asian Handicap.
This selection would deliver a full pay-out if PSG triumph by at least two goals and that holds plenty of appeal given the considerable gulf in quality between the two teams.
While PSG have not delivered goals and excitement by the bucket load in recent weeks, this could represent an ideal opportunity to rack up a few strikes.
Admittedly, there has been a notable upturn in Ajaccio’s recent results, however the newly-promoted hosts have posted just two clean sheets in 11 attempts this term, leaking at least one goal in eight of their last nine outings.
What’s more, three of the Bears’ last five losses in Ligue 1 have been by a margin of two-goals or more, and it’s also worth mentioning that their home form has been woeful this season so far.
Olivier Pantaloni’s hosts have collected just one point across their five outings at Estadio François-Coty this season, which doesn’t bode well given that PSG possess some of the most talented individuals on the planet.
With all this in mind, coupled with the fact that PSG have overcome this hurdle in five of their nine Ligue 1 wins this season so far, backing the league leaders with a –1.5 start stands out at 5/6 (Betfair).
