Next stop: Qatar! Now that the UEFA Nations League is over (for now) the countdown is on to the 2022 World Cup.
In just 53 days time, 32 nations will gather in the Arabian peninsula to battle it out to be crowned World Champions. Brazil lead the betting at 9/2 with France (6/1) and Argentina (7/1) next in line. Depsite a dismal Nations League campaign England are also 7/1 at Bet365 ahead of Spain (8/1), Germany (10/1) and Netherlands (12/1). Who’s your money on at this stage?
Circling back to the Nations League, let’s have a look at how things stand there. Croatia, Italy, Netherlands and Spain will compete for the trophy next summer after finishing top of their respective groups. It was the Dutch that headed the market before last night’s matches, at 9/4 followed by Italy at 11/4, Croatia 10/3 and both Spain and Portugal at 7/2. The Spanish qualifying will have re-shaped market by the time if re-opens.
Meanwhile Austria, Czech Republic, Wales and England will drop down to the second tier. Moving in the opposite direction are Scotland, Israel, Serbia and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Those four sides also earned themselves a potential second chance at qualifying for Euro 2024, should they fail to do so via the traditional qualifying method.
The four sides who finished top of the Tier C groups also get promoted up a level and a carck at Euro 2024 qualification, namely; Turkey, Greece, Kazakhstan and an impressive Georgia side who won 16 of 18 points available. It’s all a bit complicated but thankfully we don’t need to worry about it for another while yet.
There’s not much to get involved with today but Greg Mac has found a Bet of the Day for us from the Finnish league.
That gives us a chance to get a head start on the weekend’s fixtures where the headline acts are the North London Derby on Saturday and the Manchester Derby on Sunday.
