Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me once more focus on group-stage European football and I’ve picked out on of the most in-form sides in Europe to score at least twice at home.
Braga vs Union Berlin
🇪🇺 Europa League
⏰ Thursday 15th September, 20:00
Braga will look to make it two wins from two in Group D, as they play host to surprise Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin at the Estádio Municipal de Braga this evening.
After coming back three times to draw 3-3 with last seasons runners-up Sporting CP on the opening day of the season, Braga have gone on to win each of their next five league games to put them second in the Primeira Liga table, two points behind leaders Benfica. Artur Jorge’s side have now won each of their last six in all competitions, as they began their Europa League campaign with a 0-2 victory away at Swedish champions Malmö. Braga were extremely strong at home in Europe last season, as Os Arcebispos won five and drew one of their six fixtures in front of their own supporters – including victories over Monaco and eventual finalists Rangers.
Union Berlin won 0-1 away to Köln last Sunday in a result which not only maintained their unbeaten start to their league campaign but one that put them top of the Bundesliga table. Whilst Urs Fischer has saw his side collect 14 points from a possible 18 domestically, they are still yet to get off the mark in Europe, as they surprisingly lost 0-1 at home to Belgian runners-up Union Saint-Gilloise in their group opener. Union’s only two victories in the group-stage of last years Conference League came against bottom-side Maccabi Haifa, with The Iron Ones managing just one point in their four matches with Feyenoord and Slavia Prague – losing both away fixtures 3-1.
Bet of the Day
Union Berlin come into this remarkably sitting top of the Bundesliga table, but they’ll face a tough test against a Braga side that’s also made an impressive start to the season. The Portuguese hosts currently sit second in the Primeira Liga table and come into this having won each of their last six in all competitions.
Braga have been in fine goal-scoring form this season, with them having scored 23 goals across their seven league and Europa League fixtures – scoring on multiple occasions in six of those. Os Arcebispos also won five and drawn one of their six Europa League fixtures at home last season and given the amount of goals they’re scoring already this season, I’m happy to back the club from Northern Portugal to bag another brace against an Union side that tend to struggle in Europe.
- Braga to Score 2+
- Pays 5/4 (Sky Bet)
