What a week we’ve got in prospect as the group stages of three European competitions kick-off.
10 British teams are in action and for the first time since 2007 two Scottish teams will compete in the group stages of the Champions League. Celtic Park will be a cauldron for the visit of Real Madrid tomorrow night and after a 4-0 thumping of Rangers at the weekened the Hoops couldn’t be in better shape.
The Gers need to pick themselves up ahead of a tough trip to Ajax on Wednesday which kicks-off their Champions League campaign.
Once more Manchester City lead the betting to lift trophy at 5/2. Will this finally be their year? Or will second favourites PSG (4/1) beat them to their first Champions League trophy? 14-time champions Real Madrid are lively outsiders at 9/1 and can nevr be written off.
A Premier League side to win the trophy is 5/6, while it’s 9/2 for the winners to come from La Liga. The tournament will of course be punctured by the World Cup in Qatar but that shouldn’t dampen the excitement en route to Istanbul.
Tonight the Tees-Wear Derby takes centre stage. Hosts Middlesbrough (8/11) have had a dismal start to the season and find themselves in the relegation zone after seven matches. A win tonight could lift them as high as 16th but opponents Sunderland (4/1) will have other ideas.
The Black Cats have made an impressive return to the Championship so far and could climb in to the top four with a win. Ross Stewart has been a key man, netting five times already and is 5/2 to score anytime.
The sides haven’t met on league duty since 2018 when Sunderland nicked a point at the death in a 3-3 draw and it’s Boro who have had the upper hand in meetings prior to that and are unbeaten in nine in this fixture.
Despite their lowly position in the league Boro are one of nine teams to hit double figures in the league so far. That bodes well for a goals bet tonight in front of the cameras, where Over 2.5 goals appeals at 10/11.
