After a sticky start Vincent Kompany has Burnley heading in the right direction and they’re now unbeaten in five (in all competitions) and up to third in the table.
The former Manchester City star, and disciple of Pep, has transformed the Clarets style of play so he can be forgiven for suffering a few teething problems, especially in the ultra-competitive Championship.
They face another tough trip tonight, to the Hawthorns, to play West Brom. The Baggies find themselves in mid-table after five draws from their opening seven games, so it’s clear they need to start converting those stalemates to wins.
One of the first things they need to do is stop conceded first, something they’ve done in five of seven in the league so far. It’s a tempting 7/5 that Burnley break the deadlock tonight.
Kompany’s philosophy is based around possession based football and his side have dominated most matches. Ironically their lowest percentage of possession (55%) came in their biggest win to date, the 5-1 away victory at Wigan. More often than not that possession has led to them winning the corner count and they’re 6/4 to take more corners than West Brom tonight.
Given West Brom’s indifferent form and lack of wins so far the 5/2 on Burnley to win makes plenty of appeal but backign them at 11/8 in the Draw No Bet market feels like a safer approach in case Albion make it six draws in eight.
