Few would have predicted that tonight’s clash at Old Trafford would see bottom of the table hosting 15th placed but that’s where Man Utd and Liverpool find themselves two matches into the season.
Erik ten Hag has had a shocker so far. Defeats to Brighton and Brentford sees them pointless and rooted to the foot of the Premier League. The last thing he needs is a visit from a Liverpool side hungry for their first win of the campaign.
The Red Devils have won just one of their last 12 league meetings with Liverpool and it’ll take a minor miracle to prevent that becoming 13. They opened up at a massive 6/1 last Sunday but have been backed in to a best-price of 9/2 (SBK), which feels a bit on the skinny side.
Cristiano Ronaldo continues to cut a frustrated figure and the ongoing uncertainty around his United future certainly isn’t helping the mood at Old Trafford. He’s 15/8 to find the net and 6/1 to open the scoring. Anthony Martial could return for the home side but he’s likely to start on the bench.
Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez sits out the first of his three-match suspension so Jurgen Klopp will be reliant on Mo Salah and Luis Diaz for goals. Salah has a terrific record in this fixture and he’s one goal away from becoming the first Liverpool player in history to reach double figures against United. He’s a 6/5 shot to net this evening.
Diaz impressed last week, bailing the Reds out at Anfield against Crystal Palace and is always capable of a goal. It’s 15/8 he finds the net tonight.
Liverpool will have been bouyed by Man City dropping points yesterday and could climb to 6th with a win. It’s hard to make a case for anything else, they’ve won the last three competitive meetings 4-0, 5-0 and 4-2. The Reds are just 1/2 to score two or more and 13/8 to score three or more.
