RANGERS begin their Champions League quest tonight and it’s hard to know what to expect when they take on Belgian shock troops Union Saint-Gilloise.
Union topped the table against the odds last term but missed out on the title as they finished behind Club Brugge in the play-offs.
They have since lost some star men but it’s a similar story for Rangers so tonight’s first leg in Lueven is a tough one to call.
McBookie make the Ibrox side 6/4 narrow favourites for a win, with Union at 17/10 and the draw paying 12/5.
But I’m steering clear of that market as I haven’t seen enough of the Belgian side.
I did see Simon Adingra score a stunning goal for Union in their league opener and the on-loan Brighton kid could get some joy against a defence that looked ropey in Livingston on Saturday.
The Ivory Coast international is 10/3 with Paddy Power for anytime scorer and that looks a bit overpriced.
There are some cracking games elsewhere and PSV Eindhoven head to Monaco off the back of a thrilling 5-3 win over Ajax at the weekend.
That suggests some thrills tonight but BTTS is just 7/10 at William Hill while over 2.5 goals pays 4/5 with the same firm. It might be best combining them in a bet builder.
Sheriff Tiraspol were the story of last season’s Champions League as they gave Real Madrid, Inter and Shakhtar a fright in the group stage.
They have a good recent pedigree in Europe so I’m surprised to see them as big as 2/1 (BetVictor) for a win at home to Czech side Viktoria Pilzen tonight.
