Group A1 in the UEFA Nations League has already served up a couple of surprise results, leaving Croatia and tournament favourites chasing their first win tonight in Split.
Luca Modric’s absence was keenly felt by the Croatians who were humbled by Austria in a 3-0 defeat on Friday night. At the same time a star-studded French side which included the likes of Mbappe, Benzema, Kante, Griezmann, Coman and Varane were downed by a late Danish goal at the Stade de France.
It was Les Bleus’ first defeat in regulation time since November 2020 and they’re 21/20 to bounce back with a win tonight.
Didier Deschamps’ missed Friday’s match due to the passing of his father. His side won on their last visit to Croatia, a 2-1 win thanks to goals by Griezmann and a winner from Mbappe with 10 minutes to go. A repeat could be on the cards tonight with 2-1 away win priced at 8/1. Mbappe is priced at 6/4 to score anytime.
Seven of France’s last 13 competitive matches away from home have been won by a single goal (inc neutral venues) and it’s 11/4 that they leave Split with all three points thanks to a one-goal margin.
Denmark will be aiming to build on their impressive victory in Paris with another winning performance in Vienna tonight. The Danes had been very impressive in World Cup qualifying and proved that was no fluke on Friday night. They’re tough to break down and got the better of tonight’s hosts, winning 4-0 in Austria aroudn 14 months ago.
They look a good bet at 11/8 depsite the Austrians’ excellent win in Croatia a few days ago.
In the lowest tier of the competition Moldova (19/20) should be backed to beat Andorra at almost even money. The Moldovans don’t win many but they appear to be more competitive against stronger nations than Andorra so will travel to the principality expecting to pick up the three points.
Albania (7/4) could be another side to keep an eye on tonight when they travel to Iceland. The hosts appear to be regressing and have won just six (three in friendlies) of 28 since 2002, those coming against the likes of Canada, El Salvador, Faroe Islands and Liechtenstein (twice) as well as a 2-1 over Romania.
Well done to followers of The Caddy who enjoyed another profitable weekend thanks to some each-way returns courtesy of Patrick Cantlay who tied in 3rd place at the Memorial Tournament at 18/1 and Victor Perez who also tied 3rd at 40/1 at the Porsche European Open.
