Two sides who successfully qualified for this years World Cup kick off their Nations League campaign in Brussels, as Belgium play host to Holland at the King Baudouin Stadium.
Belgium topped their World Cup qualification group, finishing five points clear of second-placed Wales. Roberto Martínez’s side went through qualifying unbeaten, winning six and drawing two of their eight qualifiers, with them winning all four on home turf. Belgium found the back of the net in all eight matches, finding the back of the net on 25 occasions, with 17 of those goals coming in front of their own supporters. The Red Devils did concede in five of those eight qualifiers, with two of those clean sheets coming against bottom side Belarus. Belgium were carded 12 times in qualifying, only failing to collect a card at home to both Belarus and Estonia, whilst their opponents picked up at least one card in six of those matches.
Holland also topped their World Cup qualification group, as they finished two points above second-placed Turkey and five above third-placed Norway. After an opening day 4-2 defeat in Istanbul, Louis van Gaal’s side then went on to win seven of their next nine qualifiers, drawing the other two. Holland found the back of the net in all 10 of their qualifiers, scoring a remarkable 33 goals. The Oranje kept clean sheets away to Gibraltar and Latvia, but conceded seven times in their matches away to Montenegro, Norway and Turkey. Holland picked up a total of 13 cards in qualifying, only failing to pick up a card at home to Gibraltar and away to Latvia, whilst their opponents picked up 26 cards.
Bet of the Day
After both successfully qualifying for this years World Cup in Qatar, both Belgium and Holland get their Nations League underway in Brussels on Friday evening and I’m expecting a competitive clash. Belgium found the back of the net in all eight of their World Cup qualifiers, whilst Holland scored in all 10 of their’s, with them scoring a combined total of 58 goals. Given both of these sides records in front of goal coupled up with the fact that two of Roberto Martínez’s sides clean sheets came against Estonia and that the Dutch conceded seven goals away to the three sides directly below them in the group, I’m keen to back both sides to get on the scoresheet in Brussels. Given that these two nations were booked in 14/18 of their qualifiers and their opponents were carded in 15 of them, I’m happy to add in both teams to receive a card to boost the price up.
