All three British clubs face tough tasks if they’re to qualify for European finals tonight with none of them holding a lead from their first leg matches last week.
At 11/8, the bookies think Leicester City have the best chance to progress following their 1-1 draw at home to Roma at the King Power Stadium. West Ham are 11/4 shots to overturn a 2-1 deficit at Eintracht Frankfurt whilst Rangers look a generous 4/1 to turn around a 1-0 defeat at RB Leipzig. If you fancy a night of British success you can get a tasty 43/1 on all three qualifying.
Rangers have saved some of their best performances of the season for European nights at Ibrox and will feel confident in going toe-to-toe with Die Roten Bullen on their own turf. Their 3-0 win over Red Star was arguably their most impressive performance to date but they ground out a 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund and wore 10-man Braga down in extra-time in the quarter-finals. So the power of Ibrox should not be underestimated.
The Gers have raced in to the lead in all three home knock-out matches, scoring first and scoring early (2min, 11mins & 22mins) and you’d think they’ll need to do the same this evening to stand a chance to progress. They’re 6/4 to bag the first goal and that could be worth a punt.
Last week’s match felt more like a training session at times as neither side managed to get going and only a late strike from outside the box by Angeliño denied Rangers a draw. But RBL should have a few key players back and are usually set-up to be more productive on the break. Christophe Nkunku will be their main goal threat and he’ll be looking to redeem himself after last week’s missed sitter. He’s 6/4 to score anytime tonight.
For Rangers, James Tavernier has scored a penalty in each of their three knockout rounds so far and the attacking full back is 11/4 to keep the run going with a goal tonight.
All in all, that 4/1 on Rangers making the final looks too big to ignore on what could be a famous night on the southside of Glasgow.
In the other semi-final West Ham face an uphill task to reach their first European final in 46 years. Frankfurt had already won at Real Betis and Barcelona before leaving London with a 2-1 victory last week.
A first minute goal had the Hammers chasing the game from early on and they’ll need something close to their brilliant performance in Lyon in the previous round to qualify tonight. Encouragingly for David Moyes’ side the Germans have only won once in five attempts at their own Waldstadion in this Europa League campaign, although they have drawn the other four.
Either way West Ham must score to stay in the tie and they’re 11/8 to score two or more inside 90 minutes, something they’ve done in four of five matches in this campaign, plus in extra-time at Sevilla. BTTS is 4/6 and that’s landed in all five of Frankfurt’s home games. But the best bet could be to take Over 2.5 Goals at 10/11.
Leicester had to come from behind to earn a draw against Roma last week and will have been disappointed not to take a lead to the Italian capital tonight. They recovered from the early setback to dominate the match and will feel the tie is there for the taking this evening.
Jose Mourinho will have other ideas though and he’d love nothing more than to prove to doubters that he’s still got it by getting one over a Premier League side.
Serbian whistler Srdjan Jovanović is the man in the middle tonight and with the tie so finely poised there could be some dark arts employed. It’s no surprise to see Mourinho’s team at the top of card count table in Serie A and Jovanović averages over 5 cards per game in Serbia. In what could be a closely contested match there could be some time-wasting to help us towards Over 5.5 Cards at 11/10.
Well done to dc john boy who’s 70/1 tip in the comments yesterday came in with a last minute goal, which meant all eight games on the final day of the Thailand season finished Over 2.5 Goals. Great to see a few members got in on the action too. 👏
