Liverpool laid down the gauntlet for Manchester City with a thumping 4-0 win over Man United last night so it’s over to Pep Guardiola’s side to respond at home to Brighton this evening.
The Reds were irresistable again at Anfield and seem to be hitting top gear just at the right time of the season. They’ve now overtaken City at the top of the league but will it just be for 24 hours?
Visitors Brighton travel to the Etihad off the back of two brilliant away wins at Spurs and Arsenal but they’ve failed to score in their last four visits.
On paper City’s form doesn’t look great, just three wins in their last seven, but two of those were draws on their way to a Champions League semi-final berth and they’d have been reasonably satisfied with the 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the league. But the manner of their defeat to the Reds in the FA Cup and a recent 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace should serve as a warning nothing is a gimme at this stage of the season.
Only Burnley (18th) and Norwich (20th) have scored fewer goals than Brighton’s 29 so instead of taking the 2/11 on a home win you can back City to win to nil at 4/6 or back them to score two or more couple with Brighton to score less than 1 on a 11/10 BetBuilder.
Newcastle appear to have got things back on track again following a run of three defeats. They’ve won their last two and a win tonight could take them to the cusp of the top half of the table. Crystal Palace are the visitors and the stuffing may have been knocked out them following Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
The Eagles are comfortably safe and the Magpies could catch them feeling sorry for themselves tonight at a handy looking 27/20.
