Kilmarnock will look to keep up their 100% record in the Ayrshire derby this season, as they host Ayr United at Rugby Park on Wednesday evening. The hosts currently sit in second position, whereas the visitors are occupying the relegation playoff spot.
Derek McInnes suffered his first league defeat in charge of Kilmarnock, as his side lost 1-0 at Gayfield, to fall four points behind opponents Arbroath at the top of the table. That defeat last time out was Kilmarnock’s first league defeat in six, having previously taken 11 points from a possible 15. Kilmarnock have been flat-track bullies so far this term, with them unbeaten in all 12 of their matches against bottom-half sides, winning no fewer than 10 of them. Killie have the joint-best defensive record in the Championship, conceding just 16 in their opening 23 fixtures, keeping 11 clean sheets.
Ayr United come into this after drawing 1-1 with fellow relegation-rivals Dunfermline Athletic, extending their winless run to four in the Championship. Lee Bullen’s side have won just once on their travels this season and have the worst away record in the Championship, collecting just six points from a possible 33. Ayr United have lost five of their six matches against sides in the top-half, conceding 11 goals and scoring just twice. No side has scored fewer goals in the league than Ayr, with The Honest Men scoring 21 goals so far this campaign, with only seven of them coming away from home.

Kilmarnock will look to get back to winnings ways following their defeat at Arbroath last out and there’s no better fixture for them to do just that, as they host Ayrshire rivals Ayr United at Rugby Park. Kilmarnock have an excellent record against bottom-half sides, winning 10 and drawing two out of a possible 12 and I’m expecting them to defeat an Ayr United side that’s winless in their last four and have the worst away record in the Championship. Killie have the joint-best defensive record in the league and with Ayr being the lowest scorers, I’m happy to throw in under five match goals alongside a home win. This selection has landed in 11 of Kilmarnock’s 12 wins in the Championship this season, as well as in all 11 of Ayr United’s defeats.
