Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the French Ligue 1 and there’s a side that stands out to me and I fancy them to keep up their good form and collect another three points.
Clermont Foot vs Strasbourg

European chasing Strasbourg are on their travels on Wednesday evening, as they take on strugglers Clermont Foot at the Stade Gabriel Montpied. The visitors are 7th, just two points off 4th placed Rennes, whilst the hosts are 16th and are only one point clear of the relegation zone.
Clermont come into this off the back of a 4-0 thumping away to Monaco on Sunday afternoon. That defeat means it’s now just one win in 10 in Ligue 1 for Clermont, with the newly promoted side losing seven of those. Clermont have struggled for goals this season, particularly in the last few weeks, with Les Lanciers failing to score in four of their last six, scoring just three times in those matches. In fact, Clermont have scored just 20 times in the French top flight this season, with nine of them coming from Mohamed Bayo, who’s currently on duty at the Africa Cup of Nations. Only the bottom two and Metz have conceded more goals in Ligue 1 than Clermont, with them conceding 36 goals so far this term.
Strasbourg came from a goal down at home to Montpellier on Sunday to win 3-1 and keep up their good run of form. The club from Alsace have lost just one of their last nine Ligue 1 tussles and that was at home to 3rd placed Marseille. In fact, Julian Stéphan’s side have won four of their last five games in Ligue 1, including back to back away wins against both Metz and 2nd placed Nice. Only league leaders PSG and 4th placed Rennes have found the back of the net more often that Strasbourg this season, with Le Racing scoring 39 goals in their opening 20 matches this season, with 13 of them coming in their last five.
Bet of the Day
Both these sides come into the match at opposite ends of the table and in contrasting form. Julian Stéphan’s visitors come into this with just one defeat in their last nine, as well as winning four of their last five and know another win here will lift them into 4th spot in the table. Meanwhile, the hosts have lost seven of their last 10 in Ligue 1, winning just once and with top scorer Mohamed Bayo (scorer of 9 of their 20 goals) at AFCON, I don’t see them causing their in-form visitors too many problems here, therefore I’m happy to back Strasbourg at what I feel is a very good price.
