Celtic closed the gap to three points at the top of the Premiership last night, now it’s over to Rangers to respond upon their trip to Pittodrie tonight.
The Gers face a trip to Celtic Park in a couple of weeks and will be desperate to keep their noses in front in the race for the title and it’s usually a tough assignment at Aberdeen.
The Dons finished 2021 in decent shape with four wins from five in December that saw them end the year in the top six after a very disappointing start to the season. Stephen Glass will look to their 2-2 draw at Ibrox in October for inspiration but Rangers are under new management since then with Giovanni Van Bronckhurst replacing Villa Park-bound Steven Gerrard.
The Dutchman has made a near-perfect start to his time in the Ibrox hotseat. Only Lyon have stopped his side from winning and they’re beginning to look as defensively sound as they did last season when they blew the rest of the division away. It’s now six clean sheets in a row in the league.
Rangers are probably too short to back at 8/15 but if you do fancy them to win then the 11/8 on them doing so without conceding could be better value.
There’s no love lost between the two sides so cards is always a marke worth considering. Five players saw yellow in that Ibrox clash ealrier in the season but amazingly Scott Brown wasn’t one of them. The legendary ex-Celt was always good for a card against his former foes and he heads the player card market at 13/8. That still looks good value.
Hearts look the only other stand-out bet in Scotland at 4/7 against a struggling St Johnstone.
With Burnley v Watford postponed that just leaves Chelsea’s visit to Brighton in the Premier League. The Seagulls are proving a tough nut to crack – only the the top three have lost fewer games this season so the Blues will have their work cut out to return home with all three points.
Their title challenge suffered a near-fatal blow at Man City so anything less than a win would be the final nail in that particular coffin. Brighton have scrpaed more draws than anyone else this season (10) so it could be prudent to keep the draw onside.
In the Championship Birmingham must be dreading their trip to Fulham. The Cottagers have hit a sensational 13 goals in their last two matches with Aleksandar Mirovic netting five. The Serbian sriker has now scored an incredible 27 goals in the league including three hat-tricks and it’s a measure of how feared he is that he’s jus 8/15 to score anytime.
Fulham have scored three or more in 11 of their 25 games and are 11/10 to do so again but if you fancy them to continue their hot scoring streak you can get 11/4 on then hitting Over 3.5 – something they’ve done eight times this season.
