Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the top two divisions in Germany. I’ve picked a goal based selection from each to give us a double just above even money.
St Pauli vs Erzgebirge Aue
🇩🇪 2. Bundesliga
⏰ Saturday 15th January, 12:30
Two sides at opposite ends of the 2. Bundesliga meet at the Millerntor Stadion as St Pauli host Erzgebirge Aue. The hosts come into this top a point above 2nd placed Darmstadt, whilst the visitors are 17th and are six points adrift of automatic safety.
St Pauli collected just one point from their last two matches away to Holstein Kiel and Fortuna Düsseldorf respectively, but will be glad to be back on home turf. Timo Schultz’s side boast a 100% record at the Millerntor Stadion this season, winning all eight of their matches. No side has found the back of the net more at home this season, with St Pauli scoring on 24 occasions, scoring 2+ in all eight matches and 3+ in six of them.
Erzgebirge Aue were defeated 1-3 at home to Nürnberg last time out, meaning the side second from bottom have lost each of their last four in the league, conceding on 10 occasions. The Violets have won just once on the road this season, with them losing four of their last six. Erzgebirge Aue boast one of the division’s leakiest defences, conceding 30 goals from their opening 18 matches this season, as well as keeping just four clean sheets.
Borussia M’gladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen
🇩🇪 Bundesliga
⏰ Saturday 15th January, 17:30
Borussia M’gladbach host Bayer Leverkusen in a Rhine derby at Borussia-Park. The hosts come into this in 12th, but are only six points off the European places, whilst the visitors are 5th, just two points behind Hoffenheim in 3rd.
Gladbach ended their five match winless run last time out, as they came from a goal down to defeat champions Bayern Munich away from home in a shock result. Despite their poor run of form prior to that win in Munich, the Foals have scored in eight of their last nine matches. Adi Hütter’s side have only failed to score in one of their eight matches at Borussia-Park this season, scoring 14 goals. Gladbach have the third leakiest defence in the Bundesliga this season, conceding 33 goals from their opening 18 matches, with the Foals managing just two clean sheets so far this season.
Leverkusen salvaged a point at home to Union Berlin last time out, but it’s now four games without a win for Gerardo Seoane’s side. Leverkusen have kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 matches in the Bundesliga, conceding 11 goals in their last four. Leverkusen do score goals though and have failed to score just once all season. They’ve found the back of the net on 42 occasions this season, with only Bayern and Dortmund scoring more.
Bet of the Day
St Pauli come into this top and can at least temporarily extend their lead to four points, as they host lowly Erzgebirge Aue. The league leaders have won all eight at home this season and should be too strong for their visitors, who’ve lost four of their last six away. Timo Schultz’s promotion chasing side have scored 24 goals in those eight matches at home, scoring 2+ in every one and they should keep that run going against a side that’s conceded 10 goals in their last four matches. Gladbach host Leverkusen in the Bundesliga’s late kick off and it should be an absolute cracker. Both sides are great going forward, with Gladbach scoring in eight of their last nine and Gerardo Seoane’s visitors failing to score just once all season. However, both sides are suspect at the back, with Adi Hütter seeing his side keep just two clean sheets this season, with the visitors conceding in 10 of their last 11. Given both sides rarely fail to net, it’s likely we’ll see both sides score here and that should lead to over 2.5 goals in this Rhine derby.
- St Pauli to Score 2+
- Borussia M’gladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen – Over 2.5 Goals
- Double Pays 11/10 (William Hill)
