As is now a tradition in the LEC, the first weekend of the split is a three-day-long super week. Meaning we get a full three days of matches. The action kicks off with the 2021 winners MAD Lions facing off against the “Super Team” of Vitality, one of the early favourites to win the Spring Split. With each side playing three matches each, it’s likely to be an explosive one. In the article below we’ll preview a couple of the sides in action this weekend that you should keep an eye out for.
MAD Lions
With the double LEC winners in 2021, MAD Lions will have a busy first week in the LEC. Starting off with a tough game against Vitality, things get a little easier on day two against SK Gaming. Sunday will see MAD face off against G2 Esports, in what will likely be the game of the weekend on paper. As for how MAD will fare, they’ll likely struggle to pick up a 3-0, however, we can see a 2-1 is possible over the weekend, with their game against Vitality the most likely banana skin.
Fnatic
Fnatic could be in for a weird weekend. While their roster on paper looks really strong, they also face a weird series of matches. Day one will see them face off against new team BDS, before a difficult day two series against Vitality. Their weekend ends with a game against SK Gaming, as Fnatic look primed to secure a 2-1 start, any less, however, would be seen as a poor start. Once again, Vitality will be the tricky game for Fnatic, so bet accordingly.
G2 Esports
2021 was a year to forget for G2 Esports, and with the rebuild to their roster for 2022, they’ll be looking to get off to a strong start. G2 face-off against XL and Astralis in the first two games, which should be a great chance for them to get two wins. They play MAD Lions in the final game of the weekend, which could be a difficult one. If G2 can gel in their first two games, and MAD slip-up, it could be a shock 3-0 weekend for the former LEC Champions.
Team BDS
The newest side to the LEC, so it only seems fair to give them a mention here. It’s very much an unknown how the team will play together, and with a tricky first game against Fnatic, it might not be a good start. However, Saturday and Sunday feature much more winnable series against XL and Misfits respectively. BDS will give everyone a chance to see them in action this weekend, and anything but an 0-3 would be a good start for the French side.
