The road to Wembley continues tonight for Liverpool and Arsenal after last week’s postponement.
The Gunners may feel a little aggrieved that they’re not heading to Anfield with a first leg lead under their belts. They were favourites to take advantage of a severely depleted Liverpool squad last week but the Merseysiders were granted a postponement after claiming several players had tested positive – only to later confirm that the majority were actually false-positive.
However both squads remain stretched with Arsenal’s being described as down to the bare bones. Mikel Arteta needs a big peformance from his side following Saturday’s embarrassing FA Cup exit a Nottingham Forest. That was their second defeat this year and he’ll desperate not to allow the good work he’s done and the goodwill he’s built up since an abysmal start to the season, be undone.
The Gunners aim will be to keep themselves in the tie for next week’s return leg at the Emirates, when they might have more players to choose from. But it’s Liverpool who look the best bet at 10/11 to secure a first leg lead despite the fact they’re without the dynamic duo of Salah and Mane, as well as Naby Keita, who are all on African Cup of Nations duty.
In the two strikers’ absence Diogo Jota could be most likely to get on the scoresheet. Only Mo Salah has scored more for the Reds this season and he’s 21/20 to score any time. A lively outsider could be assist-king, Trent Alexander-Arnold who has returned to training and has scored twice this season, as well as providing a huge 11 assists. Unfortunately Bet365 aren’t offering him on their assists market, so it might be worth shopping around.
