Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on Scotland and in particular two sides top of their respective leagues. I’m expecting both sides to secure a routine victory on home turf.
Rangers vs St Mirren
🏴 Premiership
⏰ Sunday 26th December, 15:00
League leaders Rangers will look to secure another three points as they play host to St Mirren at Ibrox. The hosts are currently six points clear of bitter rivals Celtic, whilst the visitors are 9th, but only three points above the relegation playoff spot.
Rangers struggled to break down Dundee United last time out, but a 71st minute James Tavernier penalty was enough to secure all three points. It’s been a mighty impressive start for Giovanni van Bronckhorst, with the Dutchman winning seven of his opening eight matches in charge, including all six in the league. The champions have scored 12 goals in those six league victories, keeping clean sheets in each of their last five. Ibrox has been somewhat of a fortress for Rangers, with the Gers winning 26 of their last 29 in the league, drawing the other three. Rangers are the top scorers in the league, scoring 41 goals in their opening 19 fixtures.
Despite their squad being decimated with Covid and playing with kids, St Mirren managed to hold on to secure a mighty impressive 0-0 draw against Rangers bitter rivals Celtic. However, that draw during the week now means its 10 without a win in the league for the Paisley side. Jim Goodwin’s side have won only twice on their travels this term, and have lost each of their last two, conceding six goals. St Mirren lost 6-0 earlier in the season away to Celtic and lost 3-0 on both of their visits to Govan last season.
Cove Rangers vs East fife
🏴 League 1
⏰ Sunday 26th December, 15:00
It’s top versus bottom in the Scottish League 1 as league leaders Cove Rangers host East Fife at Balmoral stadium. The hosts come into this two points clear of Montrose, despite having played a game less. The visitors, on the other hand, are bottom, five points behind Dumbarton in 9th.
Cove Rangers come into this after defeating Barry Ferguson’s Alloa side 3-0 last time out to maintain their position at the top of the league. Not only is Paul Hartley’s side unbeaten in their last eight in the league, but they’ve also won each of their last five, scoring 13 goals and conceding none. Cove also boast the leagues only remaining unbeaten record, collecting 21 points out of a possible 27. Cove are also the league’s top scorers with 37, with 22 of those goals coming at home
East Fife’s were losing 0-1 at home to Falkirk last out before the match was abandoned. It’s been somewhat of a struggle for East Fife this season, with Stevie Crawford’s side collecting just 13 points points from their opening 17 fixtures. Only two of those points have came away from home, with The Fifer’s losing seven of their nine matches on their travels. East Fife have the joint worst defensive record in League 1, conceding on 37 occasions. 27 of those goals have came away from home, with East Fife conceding at least twice in all seven defeats and at least three times in six of them.
Bet of the Day
Rangers have been in great form in recent weeks and will be confident of collecting another three points at home to a covid hit St Mirren side. Van Bronckhorst has won his opening six matches in the league and with Rangers winning 26 of their last 29 league games at Ibrox, they should win once again here to at least maintain their six point lead at the top. Rangers have scored 10 in their last four at Ibrox and I’m happy to add them to score at least twice, along with a victory. The league leaders in the Scottish League 1 Cove Rangers are also the form side in the league, with Paul Hartley’s side winning each of their last five, scoring 13 times and conceding none. Cove are strong at home and I’m backing them to collect all three points at home to an East Fife side that have collected just two points on their travels this term. With Cove being the top scorers in the league, I’m happy to add in the home side to score at least twice along with the win, something that’s landed in all seven of East Fife’s defeats on the road.
