Tyson “Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1) takes on Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-1-1) for the former’s WBC Heavyweight title belt at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The bout was originally scheduled to take place on 24 July, but was postponed due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in Fury’s camp.
This will be the third meeting of the pair, with the first ending in a dramatic split-decision draw in Los Angeles in December 2018, with Fury twice recovering from heavy knockdowns. Even so, many observers believed that Fury had the better of things overall and deserved to win the fight.
Second Fight
The second fight was an altogether different encounter and far more clearcut, with Fury dominant throughout to end Wilder’s five-year title reign at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Paradise, Nevada, with a seventh-round TKO, having already put Wilder on the canvas in the third and fifth rounds.
Fury decided that attack was the best form of defence in that fight and aggressively pushed Wilder back throughout.
Wilder went into the first two fights as a fairly marginal favourite, but after Fury’s dominant display last time out, it’s the “Gypsy King” who is very much the market leader with the bookies going into this bout.
Fury is a powerful puncher, with 21 of his 30 victories coming via KO. However, he’s been taken the distance in four of his last seven fights.
Wilder is arguably the hardest puncher in boxing history, with a phenomenal 41 of his 42 victories coming via KO.
The “Bronze Bomber” isn’t as technically gifted as Fury in the ring, but such is the power that he possesses he can never be discounted. If he connects properly with one punch, it’s probably game over.
Since the last fight, Wilder has appointed his former opponent Malik Scott as his new head trainer. Scott is a largely unknown factor, but it’s difficult to believe that he will change anything too drastically about the approach to the fight of the 35-year-old from Alabama.
