As Whistling Straits prepares itself for the 43rd edition of the Ryder Cup let’s get our own house in order and have a look at some early bets ahead of the tournament on Friday.
If you’ve not already done so have a read at my Ryder Cup scene-setter and run-down of the two teams to bring yourself up-to-speed on this this year’s event. Then let’s get stuck in to some bets.
With so many pre-tournament specials available on the markets at the moment I’m going to concentrate on just a few for now.
I’ll post some more when the fourballs, foursomes and singles are announced on a daily basis, as and when they become available.
Top European Rookie
I’m going to start of with my NAP of the tournament and single out Viktor Hovland to be the Top European Rookie at even money Nap Bet365.
I just feel this talented kid will put on a display at Whistling Straits and with the only other two in this market being Shane Lowry and Bernd Wiesberger then it’s Hovland to come out tops for me and claim the European rookie credentials.
Another selection I’m liking the look of which includes Hovland is for him to get over two and a half total points at 6/4 with Bet365.
Top American Wildcard
For the Top American Wildcard I’m going to advise Xander Schauffele 4/1 Betfair.
The recent Olympic gold medalist also finished 3rd last time out at the Tour Championship. He’s another big time player and this year at majors alone he was 3rd at The Masters in Augusta, T7th at The US Open and 24th at The Open Championship at Royal St George’s.
He is always dependable to produce the goods when it matters and I just feel this week at Whistling Straits will be no exception so the 4/1 on offer looks like good value.
Top European Points Scorer
For this selection I’m going for experience and expertise to prevail therefore I’m going for Sergio Garcia 11/1 EW Ladbrokes.
The veteran Spaniard’s record at the Ryder Cup says it all really, especially in the fourballs and foursomes where his form is second to none.
He is Europe’s all-time leading points scorer with 25.5 points and at the last Ryder Cup in Paris he was unbeaten over the first two days and also repeated this in 2006 at the K Club. Ian Woosnam is the only other who can boast such credentials.
Sergio also comes here with form to his name, finishing inside the Top 10 at both his previous tournaments; 6th at the BMW Championship and 10th at the Tour Championship.
This course is all set up for Garcia’s game and he can use all his expertise and experience to help his team win valuable points and finish the tournament as Top European Scorer at an attractive price.
Good luck with your selections and enjoy the three days of non-stop excitement over the weekend. Let’s hope we can retain the Ryder Cup on American soil and bring the trophy home on the return flight. Come on Europe!
