It was frustrating to finish 2nd on Onassis yesterday – she ran a really good race but couldn’t quite get past Kevin Ryan’s Last Empire who also relishes soft going and ran a blinder!
I’m riding at Newcastle this evening and I am really looking forward to the start of the Racing League, but will whizz through the two big races on day three of The Goodwood Festival where the going is good to soft…
Thursday at Glorious Goodwood
2:25 – Richmond Stakes (Group 2)
Richard Hannon’s GUBBASS (9/2
) is my pick. He’s a very smart 2yo who’s won both of his two starts and looked ultra-impressive last time out when winning the Super Sprint Stakes over 5f earlier this month. Sean Levey takes the ride again and will be all out to beat the favourite, Asymmetric, who has course and distance form and is trained by the in-form Goodwood Cup Stakes winning trainer Alan King.
3:35 – Nassau Stakes (Group 1)
I’d pick the favourite, AUDARYA (5/2
) – she’s top class, had a sensational 4yo campaign, ran a good race to finish second to Love in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot and has course form at Goodwood having won her only start there (albeit in August 2019). I ride out at James Fanshawe’s and his horses seem in great form at home – fingers crossed she can do it today!
All the best,
Hayley!
