Scottish football expert Mark Walker runs the rule over this week’s best bets in Scotland where the biggest issue to be resolved is who goes down.
St Mirren v Hamilton Accies
HAMILTON ACCIES are crying out for points and they should be backed to at least avoid defeat when they travel to Paisley to face St Mirren.
Brian Rice’s side are three points behind Ross County at the bottom and need points on the board as soon as possible with three games left. But as we have all learned over the years, Accies should never be written off.
On the face of it, nine games without a win and in desperate trouble isn’t ideal circumstances to back them, but they are playing a St Mirren team who will have one eye on the Scottish Cup semi-final next week and have little to play for.
They always seem to dig deep and find a result from somewhere and they’ve also been unlucky in recent games. They are 4/1 to win the game and they are 23/20 with the double chance to win or draw which looks a safer bet.
Accies have won twice as many games away from home than at New Douglas Park and they can take something back from Paisley to give themselves a chance.
Rangers v Celtic
RANGERS are 20 points ahead of Celtic, but can be backed at 29/20 at home to beat Celtic at Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard’s side were below par when they were bundled out of the Scottish Cup this week by St Johnstone after a dramatic ending that saw them lose out on penalties.
But they have well and truly had the measure of their big rivals this season and look too big to hand out another beating to the deposed champions.
Celtic have the carrot of spoiling Rangers’ unbeaten league season, but they have shown precious little in the way of any indication that they can raise their game to do that.
John Kennedy has a squad full of players who can’t wait for the season to end and don’t want to be there as a pitiful Scottish Cup defeat at Ibrox a couple of weeks ago proved.
And Rangers look a big price to heap more misery on Celtic.
Dundee United v Ross County
ROSS COUNTY are another team who simply have to start winning and the 19/10 for them to win at Dundee United could be value.
United rested seven players before their Cup tie where they bossed Aberdeen and could again rotate when John Hughes’ men visit, with the semi-finals next week.
And the Staggies could take advantage at Tannadice.
