G2 Esports enter the 2021 LEC Spring lower bracket finals off a humiliating 1-3 loss against MAD Lions, which was not a very surprising result, all things considered. G2 haven’t been playing well this split and in some weird way, we believe that losing that match will benefit them.
Getting smacked in an important match like that should force G2 to rethink their strategy and put in a bit more work to prove just how good they can be. That process has already started with their top laner Martin “Wunder” Nordahl Hansen finally deciding to delete World of Warcraft and put in the time to play solo queue, whereas jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski publicly announced he will take over the leadership role and implement some changes to the team.
Rogue have proven themselves as serious LEC title contenders with a commanding 3-1 win over Schalke 04 last round. Like G2, they field some of the best players in the region and look very consistent in their games. The problem, however, is that Rogue historically struggle against G2.
Although Rogue deserve some respect for their performances this season, they should not be able to win if G2 step up and prove their might. It’s difficult to say whether that will happen considering G2’s underwhelming performances this split, but if there is something we can be sure if it’s that G2 are an entirely different beast with their backs against the wall.
We are also taking a smaller position on G2 to win 3-0. They might not have looked good so far, but if everything clicks, a clean sweep is a realistic possibility.
