The Champions League quarter-finals have thrown up some quality ties that would be worthy of the final itself, none moreso than the repeat of the 2018 finale, Real Madrid v Liverpool.
The Spaniards came out on top on that occasion but the Reds only had to wait 12 months before getting their hands on the trophy so thoughts of revenge may not be a vivid as they might’ve been.
It’s another match where a full house at the Bernabeu will be sadly missed. Regardless, it should still be a fascinating match. Liverpool look in better shape than they did a few weeks ago after three wins in a row while Real smell blood in La Liga and have cut Atletico’s lead at the top the table to three points.
Liverpool’s issues this season have been well documented but Zinedine’s Zidane men look like they’ve turned the corner after some indifferent results. They’re unbeaten in 11 but still available at 13/8 to win this first leg. Jurgen Klopp’s men are 8/5 to win and as short as 4/7 to qualify from the tie.
KevMac has shied away from trying to predict the winner but does reckon it’ll be a cagey affair in his big match preview.
No such fears in the other quarter-final match at the Etihad where Borussia Dortmund are the visitors. Defeat at the weekend saw them slip to fifth in the Bundesliga and they’ve a fight on their hands to qualify for next season’s Champions League. One win in five is not the kind of form you want to be taking to face a relentless Manchester City side.
Pep Guardiola’s men are still on course for a unprecedented quadruple and are 2/1 to be crowned Champions of Europe for the first time in their history.
You can’t discuss Dortmund in the Champions League without metioning Erling Haaland. The young Norwegian is setting all sorts of records in the competition, most recently becoming the youngest player to hit 20 goals, and doing so in just 14 games – 10 fewer than next on the list, Harry Kane.
6/4 to score anytime might be as good as you’ll ever get on him to score as is the 11/2 on him to break the deadlock.
Over 2.5 Goals is just 8/15 but two first half strikes at 5/4 makes much more appeal in a game that should be fairly open. SlipsTips’ angle of attack includes Dortmund cards in his Preview so it’s worth checking out.
