With no Premiership matches this weekend the spotlight is on the lower league so KevMac brings us his best bets from Leagues One and Two in Scotland.
Hearts v Queen of the South
Hearts need to put on a show against Queen of the South today to calm down raging fans after a disastrous Scottish Cup exit to Brora.
The Highland League champs pulled off one of the greatest shocks in Scottish football history when they dumped the Jambos 2-1 in midweek.
Nobody gave Brora a prayer in their first game since January and the minnows were 17/1 shots with the bookies.
But they defied the odds in style with a stunning win that has piled pressure on Tynecastle gaffer Robbie Neilson.
Some Hearts fans infamously flew a ‘Neilson Out’ banner over Tynecastle when their team were soaring near the top of the Premiership in 2016.
They were sceptical when he returned for a second spell last summer and he’s now under more scrutiny despite leading the Championship by 16 points.
The Jambos were scoring for fun earlier in the season but have netted just 10 goals in their last nine matches.
So I’m backing today’s clash with Queens to be tight and under 2.5 goals pays 13/10 (McBookie).
That bet came up when these sides last met, with a late Liam Boyce penalty salvaging a 1-1 draw for Hearts in Dumfries.
The Doonhamers look overpriced at 15/2 with McBookie to win but it’s hard to know what reaction we’ll get from Neilson’s side so I’m staying clear of betting on a result.
Alloa v Ayr United
David Hopkin has made an impact since taking over as Ayr boss and his side look good value at 23/20 with McBookie for a win at rock-bottom Alloa.
The incredible run of 15 consecutive Wasps games with both teams scoring came to an end when they lost 3-0 to Dundee.
But BTTS is always worth a punt with Alloa and it’s 4/5 here.
Dundee v Dunfermline
Dundee are the other BTTS kings in the second tier with that bet landing in 17 of their games this term.
They host Dunfermline today and the sides played out a 3-3 thriller when the Pars visited Dens earlier in the season.
Goals have dried up for Stevie Crawford’s side of late though with their last four matches seeing just three strikes. So betting against BTTS could be the shout at 23/20 with BetVictor.
Forfar v Falkirk
League One leaders Falkirk dumped Championship side Arbroath out of the Cup in midweek and now face Forfar.
The Bairns won 2-0 at home to Montrose on their return to league action last week and another triumph to nil on the road pays 13/10 at McBookie.
Airdieonians v Partick Thistle
Partick Thistle’s trip to Airdrie is the game of the day in League One and I fancy the Jags at 11/10 (Bet365).
They drew with Cove last weekend but were the better side and Airdrie lost 1-0 at Peterhead.
Brechin City v Queen’s Park
Backing League Two leaders Queen’s Park to win heavily last weekend paid off for me and it should be a similar story as they face Brechin City.
A Spiders win doubled with over 2.5 goals pays 17/20 with McBookie and is great for accas.
Albion Rovers v Annan Athletic
Albion Rovers sit just above Brechin at the bottom and host Annan today. Athletic look good value for a win at 6/5 with McBookie.
Super Singles
- Partick Thistle to win (11/10, Bet365)
- Queen’s Park win and over 2.5 goals (17/20, McBookie)
- Annan Athletic to win (6/5, McBookie)
