KevMac previews the weekend’s action in England including a match that’ll go a long way to deciding the destinatioon of this season’s title.
Liverpool v Manchester City
LIVERPOOL’S title defence could be effectively over if they suffer more Anfield misery when Manchester City come calling.
The Reds went almost four years unbeaten at home but now face the prospect of losing three on the spin at their fortress.
Lowly Burnley and Brighton have inflicted 1-0 losses on the champions in their last two Anfield outings while it’s now four games without a win on home turf.
So City couldn’t have picked a better time to head to Merseyside as they look to take another giant step towards winning back the English crown.
Pep Guardiola’s men have won 13 on the spin in all competitions and yet another victory at Anfield would fire them 10 points clear of Liverpool with a game in hand.
It’s do or die for Jurgen Klopp’s side tomorrow and they are 9/4 outsiders at McBookie with City 11/10 and the draw 13/5.
Betting on City at odds-against is a must right now so I’ll be joining plenty of punters in backing an away win.
It was a cagey 1-1 draw when these sides met at the Etihad earlier in the season but I can see this being more open.
Both teams to score should come up but it’s poor value at best 33/50 with SBK
Over 2.5 goals pays 13/17 with the same firm while the odds increase to 13/7 for over 3.5 strikes, which has come up in two of the last three meetings.
City have looked much more balanced since Gabriel Jesus’ return from injury and the Brazilian has netted in three of his last four matches.
He also scored against the Reds at the Etihad so I fancy him here for anytime scorer at 41/20 (Unibet).
Manchester United v Everton
Manchester United are City’s closest challengers at the top with the 9-0 demolition of Southampton in midweek leaving them three points adrift.
They can put on some pressure today but face a tough game at home to Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton.
The Toffees won at Leeds in midweek and have the firepower to cause United problems.
This could be a tight one so I fancy under 2.5 goals at 6/5 with McBookie, who price a one-goal winning margin for either team at a tempting 8/5.
Aston Villa v Arsenal
Today’s action kicks off with a lunchtime clash between Aston Villa and Arsenal in the Midlands.
The Gunners are without keeper Bernd Leno and stopper David Luiz due to suspension so Villa are tempting for a victory at 17/10 (McBookie).
But I’m going to play it a little safer and go for goals instead. Over 2.5 strikes pays 14/19 at SBK while BTTS is 8/13 at William Hill.
Villa talisman Jack Grealish is 14/5 with McBookie for a goal and that looks decent value.
