It’s a busy day in the Premier League and Kevac casts his eye over the best of the weekend’s matches
Arsenal v Manchester United
THE Premier League title race took another twist in midweek as Manchester United blew the chance to go top by crashing at home to lowly Sheffield United.
And we will find out if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have the stomach for a championship scrap this weekend as they bid to bounce back with a win away to Arsenal.
It was the Gunners who inflicted United’s last league defeat way back in November, only for their season to go into a worrying tailspin.
Mikel Arteta’s men went eight domestic games without a win to tumble down the table as United soared back up it.
But they have found their mojo again and head into this match on the back of five wins a draw in their last six league games.
The Gunners look overpriced for me at 79/40 with SBK although it’s a tough game to call.
The best value could be found in the card markets where Granit Xhaka is a tempting 11/4 with Unibet to be carded.
These sides are pretty evenly matched so backing a one-goal winning margin for either side could pay off at 11/8 with McBookie.
Sheffield United may have shocked the Red Devils in midweek but the bookies don’t give them a prayer against the blue half of Manchester today.
The Blades are as big as 26/1 with SBK to complete a shock double at the Etihad with City heading into the clash in fine form.
Manchester City v Sheffield United
Pep Guardiola’s men made it 11 victories in a row by thrashing West Brom 5-0 in midweek and are now the title favourites.
A City win to nil has been a profitable bet of late, coming up in six of their last seven games, but it’s just 13/20 at McBookie.
So I’m going to back the leaders in the handicaps with City -2 paying 6/5 with the same firm.
West Ham v Liverpool
Liverpool gave their title defence a shot in the arm on Thursday night when they beat Spurs 3-1 in London for a first league win in five games.
They are back in London tomorrow for another tough clash against an in-form West Ham.
David Moyes’ men have won their last six in all competitions and can jump above the champions into fourth with another victory.
The Hammers are hard to break down so I’m going to bet against goals in this one, with under 2.5 strikes paying a best 23/18 at SBK.
Southampton v Aston Villa
However, we should see plenty of goals at St Mary’s tonight when Aston Villa visit Southampton.
Dean Smith’s side are always a threat going forward while Saints also play on the front foot.
So I fancy both teams to score at 4/7 with McBookie while over 2.5 goals pays 3/4 at BetVictor.
Neither bet offers great value tough so I’m going to double it with some goals in the clash between Leicester and Leeds.
In that clash, BTTS is also priced 4/7 at McBookie while over 2.5 strikes is a bit shorter at 8/13 with BetVictor.
Super Singles
- Granit Xhaka to be carded (11/4, Unibet)
- Manchester City – 2 handicap (6/5, McBookie)
Deadly Double
- Both teams to score in Southampton v Villa and Leicester v Leeds (147/100, McBookie)
