DUNFERMLINE look a solid bet to see off Arbroath at Gayfield and reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
The Pars inflicted Hearts’ first defeat in the Championship last week and goals have been easy to come by in the league.
Helped by the six goals of defender Euan Murray and the assists of Dom Thomas, the East End Park side look like they are going places this season.
They’ve won eight out of nine games and drawn the other one at Ayr United. So it’s a surprise to see them only just odds on at 17-20 with McBooke to win in Angus.
It goes without saying not many teams return with a win at Gayfield unless they put the effort in but there are signs Dick Campbell’s men aren’t quite as formidable as they were last season.
And the Fifers have a golden chance to embark on a real run in the competition this season with a win.
Partick Thistle have struggled with their favourites tag in League One but things are beginning to slip into shape and they can win at Montrose.
The Jags have taken some time to adapt to life in Scottish football’s third tier and have suffered a couple of losses on the road already to Clyde and Cove Rangers.
But they looked far better in last week’s comfortable win over East Fife and if they are serious about being title contender, they have to go to places like Links Park and win.
The return of Brian Graham made a big difference to Thistle last week and they seem to be getting some of their important players back in their squad.
Montrose have yet to concede less than two goals in each of their nine matches this season and Graham and Co can maintain that record.
Airdrie blow hot or cold but look decent value to beat Cove Rangers at home. The Diamonds were excellent last week in their win at Forfar and while Paul Hartley’s side are better they seem to have been given too much respect.
They deservedly lost at Falkirk last week and look too short for the trip to Lanarkshire. With the squad at Ian Murray’s disposal they should be challenging at the top of the table and Dale Carrick and his team-mates can help Airdrie inflict another defeat on Cove.
