Enable will likely run for the last time this weekend in Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris. She has been such an amazing mare and I think we are just very proud to have her and be sending her over to Paris as favourite for Europe’s big race. They have had a lot of rain over in Paris and the ground will be very soft but fingers crossed she can do it. I actually rode work with Frankie Dettori and his daughter Ella at Charlie Fellows this week and Frankie was riding a 3 year-old filly called Atailof Two Cities who is a 1m 6f horse and not the speediest! He said to me, “Hayley, guess who I am riding second lot?!” and it was, of course, Enable!
Friday – Ascot
1.55 Tulfarris
I rode Tulfarris in last week’s Cambridgeshire. He was a bit tricky on the day and barely wanted to jump from the stalls. I felt as if he wasn’t really trying so Charlie is running him again and he’s put a first-time visor on to sharpen him up a bit. He worked in it this week and was a lot more willing so I am very hopeful he’ll put in a much better effort than he did last week!
Saturday – Ascot
1.20 – Onassis
Onassis is one of the few fillies in the field that will really relish the soft going. As you’ll all remember, she won the Sandringham at Royal Ascot on soft ground albeit over the 1 mile. I think she will be fine over 7 furlongs and her stamina should come into play. Looking at the field, there are some question marks over many of them handling the ground so I am hopeful of a big run back at Ascot.
1.55 – Maygold
I don’t know a huge amount about this filly having not ridden her before but she does love soft ground which many of these in the field don’t! For that reason alone, she certainly has to come into calculations off a pretty low weight. She has an each-way chance.
