WE’RE being advised to undertake essential travel only so that must mean Europa League away trips.
Five British clubs are in Europa League action on Thursday as they visit far-flung places such as Latvia, Macedonia and Israel while fans are stuck in their armchairs.
Surely it’s safer to sit outside in a football ground than on a plane but that’s one for the politicians to sort out.
Four Scottish sides – Celtic, Rangers, Motherwell and Aberdeen – are in action as well as Spurs.
Celtic are massive favourites at Riga while Spurs are expected to see off Shkendija as long as they put out a decent line-up.
Rangers are just under evens at Willem II while Motherwell and Aberdeen are huge underdogs away to Hapoel Beer Sheva and Sporting Lisbon.
It could be a glory night or a gory night and I’ve posted thoughts on the games involving the Brits and that’s where my Top Treble is reasoned.
Scott Allot has predictions and a match preview from Riga vs Celtic.
There are loads of other ties of course including AC Milan vs Bodo Glimt, Mura vs PSV and Sheriff vs Dundalk.
And we also have the Super Cup to look forward to as European champions Bayern Munich tackle Europa League holders Sevilla. Bayern are big favourites and should win with plenty of goals in the game if they are close to full strength.
Man City and Liverpool are in Carabao Cup action with City at home to Bournemouth and Liverpool travel to Lincoln. Bristol City entertain Aston Villa in the other game so plenty to look at.
As well as my Top Treble I’ve picked out a goals treble starting with over 2.5 goals at Milan vs Bodo with the Norwegians capable of scoring having hit 21 in five and their last 15 matches have gone over 2.5 goals.
Add both teams to score at Djurgaarden v Cluj and over 2.5 goals at Bayern vs Sevilla.
Europa League Treble
- Celtic -1 (6pm)
- Willem vs Rangers btts (8pm)
- Beer Sheva (6.30pm)
- (37-10, McBookie)
Goals Treble
- Djurgaarden vs Cluj btts (6pm)
- Milan vs Bodo/Glimt btts (7.30pm)
- Bayern vs Sevilla over 2.5 goals (8pm)
- (27-10, bet365)
