Aston Villa team news and injuries

Aston Villa possible lineup vs Sheffield United

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith will be handed a major double boost when marauding midfielder Johnn McGinn returns after six-month on the sidelines, and the influential Scottish international is in line to feature from the start against the Blades.

At the top end of the pitch, January signing Aly Samatta should reprise his role as the most central attacker with Brazilian forward Wesley still absent, with Villa cult hero Jack Grealish and tricky winger Anwar El Ghazi joining him in the final third.

At centre-half, Tyrone Mings should be partnered with Bjorn Engels, while Pepe Reina, who made a couple of mistakes in games directly before the postponement, could be replaced between the sticks by Orjan Nyland.

Sheffield United team news and injuries

Sheffield United possible line up vs Aston Villa

Blades boss Chris Wilder reported no fresh injury worries in his pre-match press conference on Monday, which means the Sheffield United chief has a full complement of players to pick from ahead of the club’s first game back.

With Dean Henderson retained on loan from Man Utd, the England hopeful should start in goal at Villa Park, with tried and tested defensive trio Chris Basham, John Egan and Jack O’Connell certain to feature ahead of him.

In midfield, the team picks itself with John Lundstrum, Oliver Norwood and John Fleck likely to start, though Chris Wilder faces something of a selection dilemma up front, with David McGoldrick, Lys Mousset, Oli McBurnie and Billy Sharp all competing against each other for two places.

Manchester City team news and injuries

Manchester City possible lineup vs Arsenal

Long-term injury absentee Leroy Sane is available for selection again, though the German international winger could start from the bench against the Gunners.

Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan are all vying for the two central attacking midfielder positions in Guardiola’s team, while Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus will go head-to-head for a position at the sharp end of the Citizens’ attack.

Veteran Brazilian Fernandinho could still be held back in defence with dependable alternatives thin on the ground, though Aymeric Laporte’s availability in the same area is hugely encouraging however.

Arsenal team news and injuries

Arsenal possible lineup vs Man City

Injured Arsenal pair Callum Chambers and Lucas Torreira are back in training and will offer Mikel Arteta more options ahead of his reunion with his old club.

On-loan right back Cedric Soares could finally feature for the Gunners for the first time – a full six months after his temporary switch from Southampton.

Arteta also has decisions to make further up the pitch in terms of personnel and tactical shape, with Mesut Ozil, Nicolas Pepe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette all competing for a probable three spots in a congested area.
