NEW YEAR’S DAY is all about recovering from hangovers but down south it’s all about football.
The English card continues at a pace with full set of fixtures so plenty for punters to think about.
All nine Premier League games are live on BT Sport and it all kicks off at 12.30pm – about the time most Scots will be surfacing.
First up it’s Burnley v Aston Villa and Brighton v Chelsea – and Burnley could be best bets of the day at 9-10 with McBookie against a Villa outfit who are in serious relegation trouble.
Losing Scotland midfielder John McGinn was a huge blow and Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at 10-man Watford was a shocking display.
Burnley have beaten every bottom-half side at home this season without conceding and are 12-5 at BetVictor to win to nil.
Brendan Rodgers made nine changes and saw his reserves win at West Ham on Saturday so his Leicester side should be fresh for the visit to Newcastle but 4-7 at McBookie is too short.
Newcastle’s good run ended with defeat at home to Everton while Rodgers will recall the likes of Jamie Vardy, Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Ben Chilwell. Vardy will be feeling refreshed and is worth a look at 5-2 with Betfred to score first/
To increase the odds back Leicester and over 2.5 match goals at 6-4 with McBookie but that be may require Newcastle contributing to the tally.
Game of the day is Arsenal v Man United and while Mikel Arteta has improved the Gunners he needs new players, especially in defence.
Arsenal played well against Chelsea at the weekend until the 88th minute and then disastrously conceded two goals to lose 2-1.
United are up to fifth and I can’t see them losing so take win or draw at 10-11 with Betfred against a side that’s been beaten four in a row at the Emirates. A possible single is United and both to score at 31-10 with McBookie.
Elsewhere in the Premiership I like both to score at Brighton v Chelsea and Watford v Wolves as well as Southampton v Spurs.
Spurs haven’t kept a clean sheet on the road in the league in 2019 and will struggle to keep out the likes of on-form striker Danny Ings.
In fact most of the Premier League games look good for goals with Norwich v Crystal Palace and Man City v Everton other candidates.
Davie Moyes makes his second debut as West Ham manager and will fancy his chances at home to a Bournemouth side whose only recent points have come from Chelsea away and Arsenal at home and are close to becoming serious relegation candidates.
The Hammers are a best evens with Marathonbet and that’s maybe a little short considering Moyes has only been appointed for a few days although he knows the squad well from his previous spell.
