IT’S my first Xmas do on Friday night but don’t worry all the Saturday write-ups are scheduled and the tips picked out.
We’ve chosen not a bad day as I don’t think Millwall v Nottm Forest will tempt anyone away from the bar and round the corner to the big TV. And there are no games in Scotland to catch my attention.
On the Continent there are some decent matches though including Villarreal v Atletico Madrid, Inter v Roma and Eintracht Frankfurt v Hertha Berlin.
French Ligue 2 goals usually attract the attention of Greg and others but no games this Friday although there are Dutch Eerste fixtures to look at as well as Ajax v Willem II in the top flight. Leaders Ajax should win this by at least two having beaten their opponents 4-0 and 4-1 in their last two at home.
Atletico are looking to bounce back from Lionel Messi’s late goal that gave Barcelona the points last week and this fixture is usually tight. Looks an away win or more likely draw.
Surprise Serie A leaders Inter will have their title credentials seriously tested by Roma. The build-up to the match has been overshadowed by the “Black Friday” newspaper heading alongside images of Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling – ironically the tone of the article was anti-racism but they got the heading all wrong.
Both sides score plenty and nine of the last 10 meetings have seen both score so that could be the shout or possibly Inter and both to score.
Eintracht have lost three in a row but suffered just one defeat at home and should beat a Hertha side with no points out if 15 from their last five road trips.
In Ligue One Lille will be on a high after winning at Lyon as they welcome Brest. Lille remain unbeaten at home while we saw the best of Brest last weekend when they stunned Strasbourg 5-0. Could see both scoring here.
Lyon face a Nimes side who fared worse than Strasbourg by being thrashed 6-0 by Bordeaux. This a great chance for Lyon to recover from their unlucky defeat against Lille and this should be an away win.
I’ve got a few bits and pieces to tidy up for my Daily Record pages but after that I’ll look to post a Friday double or treble.
On Thursday I posted a double and while both to score at Arsenal v Brighton landed, Newcastle performed what the BBC described as the “smashiest and grabiest” of wins at Sheffield United.
Well done to all the winners including Greg and others who backed corners at the Emirates.
